The whole first two days of Olivia's Christmas vacation had been spent on a man hunt for her Aunt Yelena. She had searched old records on her mother, traced old phones and numbers listed within them, had some help from Maria Hill, and had even been in contact with a few widows who said that Yelena had saved them from their brainwash, and yet she was still coming up empty.
"This is hopeless!" Olivia exclaimed, pushing herself out of her desk chair and walking across the room, her hand on her forehead.
"You can't give up now, I'm sure there's some way you can find her", Harley stated as he stared at Olivia through the facetime screen.
"Honestly Harley, I can't take the encouragement right now. I'll call you back later", Olivia said hanging up. She wrapped a blanket around her and walked over to her porch, stepping out and taking in some fresh air. Being cooped up inside the last two days was doing nothing good for her mental health. It was night, Christmas lights were strung up all around the city, and she could even get the smallest glimpse of the giant tree in Rockefeller center. Christmas was coming up so soon and she only had Harley to spend it with.
A couple minutes had passed and Olivia could feel her nose start to run from the cold weather. Just as she started back inside she could hear her phone begin to ring, which she could only suspect was Harley calling her back after she hung up on him. When she saw the name on her phone she waited another ring before answering. "I honestly didn't expect you to actually get in touch", Olivia stated, flopping on the couch.
"Liv, I'm sorry I haven't been in touch with you, I really am, and I can get into more detail about that later, but right now I need your help", Clint stated, sounding like he was out of breath.
Olivia picked up on this right away, sitting up. "What's going on?" she asked.
Clint was silent for a moment, contemplating if he really wanted to get Olivia involved or not. "Someone has hired a black widow assassin to kill me", he stated. "She is loose in New York and I don't know if I'm the only one on her hit list."
Olivia furrowed her brow. "What? No, my mom helped take down the red room years ago, I didn't think the widows were still operating...wait, are you saying I could also be a target?" she asked.
"I can't know that for sure", he sighed. "God, I don't know what to expect anymore."
"Are you safe now?"
"For now. Look kid, just watch your back, okay? If you need help, I'll come running. I hope that works both ways...", he says.
"I will. And it does", Olivia said, hanging up. She tossed her phone onto the couch and went around her apartment taking extra precaution that all of the doors and windows were locked. She knew that ultimately that wouldn't stop a widow from getting in, but what would a widow want her for anyways?
Into the night and the following day, Olivia was doing more and more research. She hadn't left her apartment in 3 days, she continued to order Chinese take out, and she most definitely needed a shower. She was a full representation of sleep deprivation and greasy hair. As she sat at her desk stuffing her face with leftover rice and giggling at a YouTube video, she heard at knock at her front door. She raised an eye brow, pausing her video and setting her bowl down.
She walked slowly towards the door, her hands full of green magic. She couldn't help but be skeptical after what Clint had told her yesterday. After unlocking the door she threw it open, revealing Harley on the other end. "Oh", she sighed, letting her hands fall to her sides, her power going away.
