It's been a year since the war with Thanos. After getting Tony back the group decided to track Thanos down and steal the stones to bring everyone back, but unfortunately their goal became impossible. Thanos destroyed the stones, leaving the damage completely permanent.

Natasha never wanted to give up. The year was spent with her coming up with various ideas on how to get them back, but every plan had the same outcome. Steve always reminded her that there was no way to get them back, but she didn't care. She would never stop trying.

One evening, Natasha sat quietly in her office, a YouTube video of a tutorial on how to make your own cheese playing on her computer screen in front of her.  She wrote the steps on a piece of paper, this being something she had always wanted to try.

Steve gently knocked on the door, opening it after he did so. "Hey" he said. "What are you up to?"

"Just learning how to make cheese" Natasha laughed.

"Well dinners ready" Steve said, leaning in the door frame. Natasha paused her video and got up from her chair. She wore grey sweatpants, one of Steve's black sweatshirts, fluffy socks, and her hair was braided. She took Steve's hand and they walked downstairs together.

When they entered the kitchen, Natasha was shocked by what she saw. A candle lit dinner for two, waiting for them at the dinner table. "Steve" Natasha said, stoically. Steve just smiled, bringing her to the table, pulling out her chair and allowing her to sit down. After she sat, she pulled her chair in, scooting towards the table. "If you would have told me, maybe I would have dressed up."

Steve crossed to the chair that catty cornered Natasha's. He chuckled softly. "You don't need to be dressed up for me to enjoy your company" he said, wearing joggers and a tight, plain, grey shirt himself.

"What's on the menu?" Natasha asked, not realizing how hungry she was until she actually smelled the food.

"I know that we've both been on a weird cooking kick lately to help us pass the time, so I decided to try something new" Steve said, reaching over the table. He pulled a hand towel off of the plate where their meal sat. "Smoked salmon."

Natasha examined the plate for a moment. She was a combination of excited, but also nervous. "You made this? You didn't order it from somewhere?" She asked.

"No I didn't order it!" Steve said, sarcastically offended. He picked up the tongs and placed some on Natashas plate, as well as his. "I also made green beans and mashed potatoes."

Natasha served the other food items, a small smile on her face. "Thank you for cooking" Natasha said, picking up her fork. She took a bite of the fish, the piece melting in her mouth. "Wow. . . This is delicious."

"Thanks" Steve smiled, proud of his accomplishment. The two sat for a lovely dinner, talking, laughing, reminiscing, even a few tears were shed. Time continued to pass, them spending nearly two hours sitting at the dinner table, their food being long gone by now. "I have something for you."

"The gift giver receiving a gift? Now I'm intrigued" Natasha stated, leaning her chin on her hand.

Steve reached into his pocket, pulling out a small black box. He stood up from his chair and kneeled in front of Natasha. Natasha sat back in her chair, her mouth opening slightly. "Natasha, I love you so much. I'm a pretty basic guy, and I know you're a cut to the chase kind of girl, so I'm gonna make this simple. Will you marry me?" He asked, a grin creeping across his lips.
