So. We talked about a slow burn in the description, and so, without further wait: I give you another episode of slow burn.
_________________________________________________Robin awoke the next morning aching, but free from her previous headache. Clint had advised not going to sleep, more medical purposes, but she'd ignored him, saying 'I doubt getting a few more hours of sleep will kill me,'
She pulled on an ivory, baggy, jumper, and some loose navy jeans that Bucky had had enough foresight to bring, then headed into the cockpit. Bucky was the only one down there, though Clint was still flying the plane up ahead, and as she came in he looked up, starting when he saw her, the strangest expression on his face.
"What?" She laughed, comfortable in his presence.
Bucky looked away, his cheeks darkening. "N-nothing. Just thought you were still asleep."
Robyn shrugged, and slipped past him, to where Clint sat, the sun still chasing them across the sky.
"I can fly—"
"Nah, it's fine. We're almost there anyway."
"There?"
"A safe house."
She nodded, perched on the side of the chair.
"You look better. The white suits you." Clint complemented her. Robyn's eyes lit up in return. Then they clouded over again.
"Clint? I... you were on the phone.... once. I heard you.. talking."
"What?" Clint jerked his head to look at her, before realizing where they were, and pulling the plane in to land. "Robyn. Okay. Um. I... You've guessed haven't you?"
She nodded.
"Then lets go tell everyone we're here."
They'd landed in an open, grassy field, acres of forest all around, and as the team headed towards the cluster of buildings in the centre, Robyn breathed in the clear air.
As they headed up the porch steps she heard Thor ask, "What is this place?" And Tony reply, "A safe house."
Clint, an arm around Natasha's shoulders, pushed the door open, and strayed inside.
"Let's hope."
The house was, at least to Robyn, incredibly beautiful, the Oaken floors and walls, and the gentle atmosphere calming.
"Honey? I'm home." Clint called, and Robyn looked up. A women had walked into the room, an expression of utter delight, and, on seeing the rest of the team, mild confusion.
As she embraced Clint, Tony turned to Thor. "This is an agent of some kind," as if trying to convince himself.
Clint turned, smiling proudly. "Gentlemen, and ladies, this is Laura."
"I... know all your names." Laura gestured. Then she turned her head and saw Bucky and Robyn in the corner. Her expression changed, for a split second before becoming friendly again. But that was enough for Bryn to feel Bucky tense slightly.
"Robyn. And that's Bucky." She said, stepping forward. "You might have heard of us as well. But ah. For the wrong reasons."
"Actually I've never heard of you." Laura looked at her.
Robyn gave an acknowledging nod. "That's probably a good thing. Though Clint." She turned back to him. "How come you haven't been waxing about my tales of glory, and impeccable timing."
"Because you're always late."
All of a sudden, a cacophony of foot steps were heard on the stairs, and two kids, a boy and a girl, came charging in.
"Incoming!" Clint called, and ran to pick them up.
Robyn jumped in surprise, staring, along with the rest of the team, apart from Natasha, who was smiling from the mantlepiece.
"These are... smaller agents." Tony continued, his expression priceless.
"Did you bring auntie Nat?" The girl asked, and Robyn saw Natasha's smile broaden.
"Sorry, we would have called ahead-" Steve apologized.
"But we were busy having no idea you existed." Tony finished.
"Yeah well, Fury helped me set this up when I joined, he kept it off S.H.I.E.L.Ds files. I'd like to keep it that way."
Bucky was still staring at the kids, a look of almost... nostalgia, resting on his brow.
"You okay?" Robyn whispered, so only he could hear."Yeah... just.. it doesn't matter."
She frowned, but let it drop. As she turned to Natasha and Laura she heard Natasha whisper, 'Traitor', and smirked as she realized what was going on. As Natasha felt her behind her she turned and pulled her over.
"You've already introduced yourself to Laura, now say hi to the baby."
Robyn began to relax, and, on the whim of the moment, grabbed Bucky by the hand, pulling him out of the shadows. "C'mon, stop being antisocial Cica. Say hello to the baba."
She watched Laura as she did so, and, not detecting any sign of discomfort at Bucky , decided that she liked the woman.
Suddenly Thor strode out, and Robyn heard the whirl of his hammer. Steve followed, and when he didn't come back, Bucky went after him, apologizing to Laura for them causing a fuss again.
Robyn turned back to her. "I can cook food if that helps."
