Robyn ran towards the med-bay, her still wet hair wrapped in a towel. She entered just in time to hear Natasha ask if Clint was gonna be okay. She took a seat just behind her, winking at Clint as she did so.
As the doctor explained the machine, Bruce's expression was one of wonder.
"She is creating tissue!"
"If you brought him to my lab, I could do this in 20 minutes," Helen smiled, Tony walking into the room just at that second.
His comment was followed by Clint's "no, no, I'm gonna live Forever! I'll be made of plastic!"
Tony passed him his drink, smiling over at Bryn.
"Actually you'll be made of you, mr Barton. Your own girlfriend won't be able to tell the difference."
"I don't have a girlfriend," was Clint's disgruntled reply.
"That I can't fix," rebuffed Dr Cho.
"This is the next thing Tony, your clunky metal suits are gonna be left in the dust," she smirked teasingly.
"That is exactly the plan." Tony replied almost immediately, though Robyn hid a smile at the hint of annoyance in his gaze.
Natasha bent down to steal Clint's drink, passing it back to Robyn, who took a sip, as Tony continued, "and Helen, I expected to see you at the party!"
She gave him a scathing look, one Robyn was most jealous of. "Unlike you, I don't have much time for party's..... will.. Thor be there?"
Robyn gave a teasing nod at her, and giving a small wave to Clint, followed Natasha out of the room. She headed down the hall to her room, stopping when she saw Bucky outside, leaning against the wall in his usual awkward way.
"Hey Bryn. I heard there were G.E.I* there. Who-"
"Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. He's fast, she does a lotta things beginning with T. Telekinesis, telepathy, tricks." Grinning she pushed past to her door.
"You're sounding more American than ever you know!" Came Bucks gleeful voice from the corridor.
"Shut up!"
She collapsed on her bed, smiling. After the events with him being re triggered, and Hydra coming into the open, Bucky had retreated back into his shell, but after a few days they were back on normal terms, if you could call relying on each other to hide the fact they were both completely not fine from everyone else. Though, over time, pretending to be okay had sort of become less pretending, more real. Robyn still woke shaking, and Bucky still flinched at loud noises, but when neither had to pretend to be anything but strong, both smiled more. Bucky was particularly proud of the time he'd completely surprised her with a rather dark joke, and she'd snorted tea out of her nose.
Recently she'd repainted her coloured, moody walls, and had started to sketch a new design, one of another room, almost a mirror image to the apartment it was painted in. This one however had a different glow to it, a sort of rainbow sheen, and it was messier, more cluttered, with darker corners but a brighter centre.
Watching this half completed work, her eyes fluttered shut, and soon she was dead against the covers.
She woke up the next morning, well rested, though still aching, and pulling on her practically trademark black jeans and tank top, dark turtleneck knotted around her waist, headed out to see what was going on.
Noticing some action in Tony's lab she slipped in, saluting the visible glowing system of J.A.R.V.I.S, and getting a, "hello, miss Robyn," back. It was long past the days when she found the sound of her dads voice haunting, and now took comfort from the friendly system deployed around the tower.
She then paused, staring at the blueish phenomenon next to her.
"Hey Tony? Whats this?" She called, and he spun around to greet her, a guilty look on both his and Bruce's faces.
"Nothing!"
She looked at him, then at the still revolving projection. "That, isn't nothing. It looks almost like a brain..."
"Robyn. Trust me on this."
"Given your track record-"
"Please. This could be the best thing ever to happen to earth."
"Could be. Tony. I need you to answer me truthfully. Is this really worth facing the consequences?"
"Only if it doesn't work."
Robyn sighed, rubbing her eyes. "Okay, Alright, I'm trusting you guys on this one, you need anything?"
"Coffee would be great actually, I-"
"I meant more along the lines of help with the project, you can get your own coffee."
Tony gave a laugh. "Probably best you don't get to involved, that way you can pretend you had no idea what was going on."
Robyn nodded, before glancing at Bruce's screen. "Your calculation is off. It should be 528.0935 not 528.0936. Otherwise the A46 wire would be too brittle."
He glanced up at her, confused. "Did you just... do that in your head?"
She shrugged, looking back at Tony, as if to say 'I may be pretending I had no idea, but I'm not an idiot'. She was good with expressions that way.
He smirked at her, and she strode off to find Bucky and Natasha, who were probably pretending to talk shit about Steve somewhere, who still didn't understand anything in Russian. She'd probably join in.
She was nice like that.
