"Well this sucks." Steve groaned, gladly receiving the damp cloth Vision had offered, his bruised eye still swollen.
They'd gathered into the living quarters, for a more relaxed debrief than usual.
Tony was lying on his back, feet up on the sofa, unusually silent, Natasha was glaring at the floor, and Steve was half hidden behind the cloth.
Robyn, Wanda, Vision and Bucky stared at them.
"What the hell happened?" Robyn quizzed, plonking herself next to Tony.
"Hydra. Again." Natasha muttered. "And it doesn't even make sense. If they wanted to kill us, they could have. They knew where we were, It Doesn't Make Sense!"
"Maybe they didn't want you." Robyn glanced around the room. "I mean, no offense to you guys, but Tony is still only human, Natasha, they know you'd never comply to them, and Steve... well I'm not sure about you. But by using you as bait: they get a super soldier, that they can control (sorry Buck), the Mind stone, an incredibly powerful mutant, and me. Though I suspect I'm only about the same importance to them as Steve. Again, sorry Steve."
She threw a glance at Steve, who simply shrugged at her.
"May I ask why the atmosphere in this room is so negative?" Vision gestured around, and Robyn nodded with him.
Wanda had retreated back into her shell, and even Bucky was standing quietly in the corner.
Nat waited to see if the other two were going to speak before replying. "We just... weren't expecting an attack. We let our guard down, for just a second... and..."
"Boom." Tony muttered.
Robyn just sighed, and slumped into the sofa. "How did the Sokovia meeting go?" She turned to Tony, who just rolled over, dropping his head into her lap.
"I don't even want to talk about it. But no one is happy."
As the silence thickened, Natasha and Steve made their way out of the room, muttering about sleep, and Wanda and Vision soon followed. Bucky lingered for a while, before Robyn nodded to him.
"I'll be with you in sec." and he wandered out, leaving Robyn and Tony together.
She carefully brushed the hair away from his eyes.
"Where's Pepper been recently? Surely she can help with this."
Tony opened his mouth, and as he forced the words out, Robyn heard it crack at the end.
"Miss Potts turned in her notice last week."
Robyn sat up so faster that Tony nearly cricked his neck. "She wha—" then she paused, seeing Tony's face. "I'm so sorry."
"Don't be." He sighed, then stood. She stood too, watching him carefully.
"You sure you're Okay, Zseni?"
He rubbed his hands over his face. "Yeah."
She brushed her lips to his forehead before walking out. Just as she past the door he called out.
"Robyn. Where... where do you keep your antidepressants?"
She surveyed him. "There are some in the cupboard above the sink. Should be quite full, I haven't been taking them often. Is this something you've had advice on, or..."
"Advice." He replied shortly.
Robyn gave a returning nod. She turned to go, then looked back.
"Tony, I... I know it feels bad now. I know, and you might feel pretty worthless now, but truthfully? You are a home for the people who love you. And you can't change anything about the past. Focus on moving forwards. What you feel won't hurt anyone else. Just don't hide it all. Trust me. That sucks."
***
Robyn wandered the corridors, before pushing open the door to her room. Bucky was lying on her bed, and he smiled softly as she entered. To her surprise, Alpine wasn't curled up next to him, instead lurking int the corner of the room.
"You Okay?"
"Yes, yes." He nodded back.
She plonked down next to him, curling into his side. "I feel like I'm asking everybody that nowadays."
"Go to sleep Robyn. You deserve that."
"Only if you do too." She felt him give a nod, and slowly shut her eyes, drifting off into a slumber.
And of course then the dreams came.
