She was going to panic. She was going to turn on her earpiece and scream into it, yell for the others to get out before they got caught too. She reached for the speaker, terrified, when: The grey came.
Washing over everything, heightening her hearing, every thought retreating. Calm.
The Reaper drew back her hand. This wasn't a time to panic. This was a mission. And her team was in danger.
The trees around her, silent in the setting sun, seemed to reached towards her, shadows calling.
Wanda first. If she got caught... the damage would be irreparable.
"Wanda. Wanda I repeat, can you hear me?"
"Robyn? Is there a problem?"
Robyn felt part of her unclench in relief.
"Just get out of here. Back to the tower."
"What? Why? We haven't found them yet, they—"
"Please Wanda. I'll get everyone out. But I can't let them get you."
"Robyn? Who? What's going on, I can hear shouts? Roby—"
"Damn it!" Robyn cried as the coms went silent, and she tuned into another radio.
"Vision. Vision, come in."
"Miss Jarvis. Could you repeat."
"Wanda Maximoff has been compromised, I repeat, compromised. Sending you her last known coordinates now. Find her. Get her out of her before she does something she can't control."
"What about Mr Stark, the others, how—"
"Just do as I say. I've got it under control."
She could feel the robots brooding silence.
"Understood."
And she turned away, but just as she tuned off, she heard him say:
"Robyn. Don't give Mr Stark a reason to unscrew any of my bolts."
"I won't."
And she tuned out.
Now Bucky.
"Bucky. Come in, Bucky."
Silence.
"Cica? You there?"
Robyn could feel some of her senses coming back, the calm, clear headed ness seeping away.
"No, nononoono..." she was muttering under her breath, when.
"Robyn. Sorry, I had to deal with some soldiers doll. You know we're surrounded?"
Robyn gave a sigh of relief, but paused. Something sounded off in his voice, something... something. But she couldn't put her finger on it, and shrugged it off.
"Thank god. Thought whoever this lot is might have... thought you might be in trouble."
She turned back to the birds eye view of the park, and was surprised to see that the orange dots were heading away, leaving Tony, Steve and Natasha in a clump, tied to what must have been a tree.
"Okay, Vision got Wanda out, it's up to us to get the other three. Looks like who ever this is is retreating, but that might not be a good sign. We need to get the others, and get out, as fast as we can. We'll figure it all out in the debrief."
"Ready to comply Doll."
"Alright. Meet at these coordinates, and we approach with caution. Understood?"
"Understood."
And the coms went silent. Robyn pushed herself off the seat, and slipped into the undergrowth, wondering as she went, Why he hadn't commented on her fighting while injured.
Maybe it had just slipped his mind. That had been happening a lot recently.
Maybe
