Glenn's P.O.V~
I thought I would hate this baby for what it did to Ruby, but I can't.
The more I look at it the more I love it.
It's the perfect mixture of Ruby and I.
"Daisy." I say out loud.
I look up at Max and he gives me a bewildered look.
"Her name has to be Daisy." I repeat insistently holding the baby out to Max for his opinion on the name.
"Daisy? Sounds great!" he says happily.
I look back down at my baby girl and I stand up.
Ruby would have wanted this, she wouldn't have let me cry and mope all day.
She would have wanted me here, with Daisy.
"Hey Max do you wanna come eat some lunch with me?" I ask him.
"Yeah sure let's go!" He says happily.
I feel awful for not letting him grieve and not being there for him, I know he'll love having an adult there for him now.
I take one last look at Ruby, her pink cheeks, rosy lips, dark wavy hair.
God she was so beautiful.
I nearly turn back and start weeping again but I can't.
I've got two kids to look after, and I can't let them down.
I turn towards the door and walk through confidently, to the surprise of everyone around me.
"Glenn are you alright?" Hershel asks me concernedly.
"Yeah, i'm okay. By the way I named the baby." I say holding her up for him to see.
"Wow isn't she cute? What's her name?" He coos, stretching a hand out and patting her soft, fluffy hair.
"Daisy." I respond quickly.
"That is such a sweet name. Perfect for our new little group! I'll come back later I've just gotta go get some herbs for those of us who are still under the weather." He tells me, giving me a pat on the back and hobbling off.
I turn back to Max, who has bought the stroller with him for the baby to sit in.
"What do you reckon's for lunch?" I ask him happily.
"Hopefully soup. I love soup." He says as he toddles along beside me.
We get into the dining hall and I see everyone eating and chatting happily.
"Hey Glenn you're back!" A Woodbury refugee greets kindly, ladling soup into bowls for us.
"Looks like its your lucky day Max." I whisper to him as I grab a bowl and hand it to him.
He looks at the soup like it's a bowl full if diamonds, but his face quickly turns sour.
"It's her favourite sort, tomato soup." He tells me sadly.
I put my arm around his shoulders.
"We'll be okay Max, she would want us to be." I comfort.
"Hey Max!" I hear Mika call from behind us.
I turn around to greet her.
"Hi Mika how are you today?"
"I'm good! Is Max going to come play with us?" She asks looking past me to him.
I hear him sniffle and turn around.
"Sure! I just gotta eat my lunch, meet you outside?" He says courageously.
"Yeah that sounds great, i'll meet you there!" She replies before skipping away.
I put the baby down in the stroller and give Max a big hug.
"You're so brave." I tell him as he hugs me back desperately.
As much as I love Daisy already, I love Max equally.
He is as much my family as Daisy is.
"You wanna wheel her round to the table?" I ask Max as he pulls away.
"Sure." He says passing me his bowl of soup.
I pick up the two bowls and follow Max to an empty table.
"Do you want me to get her bottle?" He asks as we sit down.
"Only if you want to buddy." I reply as he gets up and dashes to the kitchen.
I sit down and pull Daisy in beside me.
"Fatherhood suits you." I hear Maggie comment from behind me.
I turn to respond when someone speaks ahead of me.
"Are you really going to try and get him back when he has just lost Ruby?" Daryl scoffs from my other side.
Maggie blushes and walks away, her head hun low in shame.
"Thanks for that Daryl." I commend, gesturing for him to sit down.
"It's okay, I know how it feels to lose someone." He grumbles quietly.
Daryl wouldn't defend just anybody's relationship. And all this talking was very unusual.
"How are you anyway?" I ask.
"Fine. You?" He says before drinking his soup.
"Yeah. I'm coping." I reply.
"Good, you're gonna need to with two kids." He tells me gesturing to Max, who's running back.
"Sorry! I had to heat it up!" He says as he passes me the bottle of milk.
"It's all good buddy." I say as I pick Daisy up from her stroller.
"What's its name?" Daryl asks Max as they watch me look after my tiny, real life, human being.
"Her names Daisy." Max nods politely.
I cradle her in my arms and grab the bottle, feeding it into her mouth gently.
As Max and Daryl start to talk about squirrel meat I begin to marvel at how it feels to have a baby.
I created this living being that will grow up to be a beautiful young woman.
Just like her mother.
