Chapter 26

"So when are you going to announce it?" I hear Max ask from behind me.

"Whenever Glenn stops being annoying and overprotective."

"That could take a while, maybe you could announce it now?"

"Well that would be a little unfair to Glenn wouldn't it?"

"Well you have to endure pregnancy so it is your choice for most things."

"Max I am going to get you to be quiet right now because you are too young to be this wise." I say picking him up and giving him a hug

"I am gonna go to story time, talk to Glenn and fix things up." Max says skipping off.

I walk towards the eatery door and as I turn the corner Glenn runs into me.

I am sent backwards, tripping and falling on my butt.

"Oh damn I'm so sorry Ruby! I am such an idiot!" He says grabbing my waist and pulling me up.

"It's fine I was coming to apologise to you anyway." I say brushing dust off my jeans.

"You don't have to apologise I was a too protective, if you want to come you can, I cant tell you how to do things because you obviously have a good system."

"Thank you Glenn." i say enveloping him in a huge hug.

"It's okay, I was being an ass."

"So I was thinking we could announce the thing soon." he whispers in my ear as he grabs my hand.

"Maybe in like a week."

"Aw why not today, i'm sure everyone would love to hear."

"Well I don't know, you really think everyone will be 'super excited'!"

"Yes! we could tell them now, since everyone is here."

"Well I'm not talking."

"Okay then!" Glenn says bounding towards the nearest table and standing on it.

"Hey everyone! excuse me! Can I have your attention?" Glenn yells with the biggest grin i've ever seen.

The group quietens down and Glenn continues.

"So I have some very important news to tell you all! As you may know I have done some not so good things of late., but out of these things came something good, Ruby and I are having a baby!" Glenn's speech is met by timid applause.

Better than nothing... i think to myself.

All of a sudden Carol comes up to me.

"Oh my lord Ruby! I can't believe you are having a baby! congrats!" she says hugging me.

"Thanks!" I say hugging her back.

I look at the group to see Rick and Daryl chatting happily. Michonne is talking to Carol now and Maggie is talking to her sister. A fair bunch of people are gathered around Glenn.

I feel Max's hand cling onto mine all of a sudden.

"Ruby?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm getting the vibe." He says suddenly, his voice full of nerves.

"About what?"

"Come with me." he says leading me to our little cell.

I sit down on the desk and he sits on the bed.

"I think something terrible is going to happen."

"Why?"

"I see movements beyond the fence, too fast for walkers. and they have been piling up again. I think everyone is in danger." He whispers.

"Im sure it is just nerves."

"I don't think it is."

"Well i will keep on the lookout for anything and we can keep fully packed at all times."

"Okay, that sounds feasible." He says giving me a hug.

"Hey guys what are you doing?" glenn says, waltzing into the cell.

"Nothing much."

"So um Rick said we can go on that run now, we'd make it home before nightfall."

"Cool let's go."

"See you guys later, I'm gonna go play with the other kids."

"Bye Max!" Glenn calls after him.
