chapter 16

I wake up to the door of my cell being violently shaken.

"Oi wake up!" I hear a rough male voice say.

I jump out of bed, grab my gun off my little desk and unlock my door.

"Ew Rubes did you sleep in your shoes?" I hear Max ask.

"Yes!" I laugh in reply, "Have fun today!"

"See you later loser!" He calls after me.

I fly down the stairs and see Rick and the others grouping up in front of the staircase.

"Okay then we are all here so let's get organised; everyone get a partner."

I look around the group, Daryl, Michonne, Tyreese, Sasha, Glenn, Carol, Bob, Rick and Jack.

"Hey Ruby!" He exclaims.

"Well I havent seen you in the longest time!" I reply.

Suddenly Glenn steps in front of me.

"Be my partner?" He asks abruptly.

"Ugh sure, sorry Jack as I was saying; how are you?"

"Yeah I'm good!"

"Come on Rubes!" Glenn whines.

"Talk to you later mate!" I say as Glenn drags me behind him.

"What's up with you today?" I ask him.

"I just wanted to be with you." He replies cutely.

"Well come on then." We walk outside and to the left, towards the cars.

"Maggie and Patrick are getting the gates, four people per car. Let's move out!" Rick yells.

I jump into the closest car, Glenn coming in behind me. In the front sits Michonne and Carol.

"You guys ready?" Carol asks from the drivers seat.

"Yeah we are all good!" Glenn replies cheerfully as we roll towards the gates.

We pass throught them and get out onto the road, following Rick and Daryl's car.

"It feels scary to leave that place now." I say as I look out the window.

"Yeah. I haven't been out in ages." Glenn replies.

"It's been like 2 weeks of pure safety."

"I miss this a bit though." He sighs.

"So do you know where we are going?" I ask.

"We cleared a mall out a little while ago."

Michonne pipes up.

"Cool, is it stocked?"

"Yeah," she laughs.

"Score!" I exclaim, louder than I anticipated.

Glenn grabs my hand and squeezes it. I look at him deeply, staring into his eyes and reading them like a book.

He really does like me. I think to myself.

"What are you two doing?" I hear Michonne's voice ask.

I pull my hand away from Glenn's and sit straight in my chair.

"Nothing." I lie, my nervousness betraying me.

"Don't you try and trick me Ruby." She warns, her face deadpan.

"You do realise that Glenn has a girlfriend?" She asks me.

"Ugh-" i stammer before Michonne cuts me off.

"And Glenn are you seriously going to cheat on Maggie?"

"You two I can't believe it!" Carol giggles excitedly.

"Yeah Pookie caught us." Glenn murmers.

"Who caught what?!" I ask, to no one in particular.

"Daryl. He saw us." Glenn replies calmly.

"How long has this been going on for?" Carol asks us firmly.

"Look I started it, she didn't know till after and we aren't going to do anything until I break up with Maggie."

"Well you best not." Michonne says.

"Yeah." I add.

"We're here!" Carol says.

We roll into a fenced car park, there os a tall, green warehouse labelled handymart.

The car stops at the back of the store and we walk out. There are no walkers in sight, but i'm on high alert.

Game time.
