Golden rays of sunlight peek through the silk curtains, casting his room into a warm glow. Sam stares at the wall, his mind a war of emotions and thoughts. He didn't get much sleep last night. Tossing and turning, eventually Sam gave up on trying altogether. His body aches with bone weary exhaustion. All Sam wants to do is fall back asleep, but he's supposed to be meeting his new guard today, and well... He is kind of hungry. Perhaps he could have some simple porridge this morning. He sighs, slipping out of bed with a tired groan. Getting ready for the day, he opens the door when he hears a knock, revealing the servant from yesterday. He smiles. "Good morning, Prince Samuel." She greets. "Morning..." He trails off, hoping to get her name. The maid's eyes widen and she flushes. "Alissa!" Sam chuckles. "Good morning to you too, Alissa." Sam watches with mild interest as the girl freezes, a confused smile on her face, before she twists on her feet and scurries off once more. Sam chuckles, watching as she goes to do something else.
After taking a moment of gathering the courage to step outside the comfort of his room, he's met with the sight of his new guard looking around the place with child-like wonder. It's almost comical. For a moment, Sam wonders if he should go up and make conversation with him. After all, the man is going to be his new guard, it'd be good if he swallowed his apprehension and spoke with the guy. Sighing, he finds himself walking up to his new guard, a placid smile on his face. "Good morning." He says, raising a brow as the man startles.
"Morning, sir." He greets, acting as if he wasn't just gazing at the roof. Bucky has always been intrigued by the intricate designs. Every kingdom is different, with different tones and different stories. The one thing James likes about this job is how he gets to experience new things. Steve, the artist he is, would've been over the moon to even see a glimpse. It makes Bucky sad, he misses him. Wishes that he hadn't been pushed away from his brother.
"What's your name?" Sam asks, watching the man with intrigue. It makes Bucky flush underneath his uniform. "My name is James Buchanan Barnes." He replies, shoulders ram-rod straight and eyes never once leaving Sam's. There's something about Sam that has Bucky fumbling. Maybe it's his beautiful eyes, so warm and full of so much life, it threatens to make Bucky breathless. Which is weird, because he's never felt this way for someone before. Sure he's had a few gents and women who he thought were beautiful, but they definitely don't compare to the prince's.
Sam raises a brow at the name, smiling. "James. It's nice to finally meet you." He says, holding out his hand. Bucky looks down at it for a moment, eyes wide with surprise before he takes the hand, shaking it. "Pleasure's all mine, sir." He says with a charming smirk, electric blue eyes glinting with charisma.
Sam's taken aback at the switch in personality, eyes blinking owlishly as he struggles to comprehend the feeling. His heart skips a beat at the easy confidence, his lips quirking into an amused smile. Sam knows he shouldn't allow himself to get close to James. But a part of him feels thrilled to have someone again, even if he isn't quite ready to accept that Riley is never coming back. Maybe, just maybe, he could start to let himself feel a little again.
Bucky smiles to himself. "Have you had breakfast yet, sir?" He asks, head tilting to the side. It's still rather early in the morning, not having even hit 8 yet. Now that the Prince is closer, James notice's the bags beneath his eyes, the way his prince's shoulders are slumped, eyes haunted despite the amused smile twisting the Prince's lips. He's too attractive for his own good. Bucky thinks with a forlorn sigh. "No. Have you?" James shakes his head. "I didn't want to go down without you. I'd hate to leave you alone on my first day." He says, his voice hesitant. "I know you're not happy with me being here, but I vow to make sure that I'll make it your worth-while. I know how it feels to lose a friend." He whispers, avoiding eye-contact. He shouldn't be sharing this with the prince. It feels out of place.
Sam watches James quietly, registering the words. "Come, lets get some breakfast." Sam says, walking off.
James's first day of being Sam's guard isn't too bad. He gets shown around the palace and meets new people. All in all it was a good day.
