Eyrie
Lyv’s mum had decided to drop us off at the cafe which, according to Lyv, was a great place. When I met Lyv’s mother, I understood where she had gotten her talkative genes from. Her mother seemed like a really easy going woman. She kept asking us questions, all the way to the cafe and wished us fun in the end.
We stood there in front of a small coffee shop. It had a soothing brown texture and windows all around. I could see the five boys sitting on a table out of which, I recognized three. I assumed one of the other two to be Liam and had no idea about the other one. The inside of the cafe looked comfortable and welcoming. Just as we entered through the door, I felt cold air breeze past me. It was an amazing feeling because the AC in the car stopped working half way here and the weather outside was very warm. We walked up to the table and seated down.
“Hey girls! You’re finally here.” Zayn greeted us. “Meet these guys, this is Liam and this is Louis.” he said gesturing to the other two boys, one by one. Liam had hair just like Justin Bieber and his eyes were shining because of his wide, happy smile. He made me feel warm, which was a good start. Louis on the other hand, gave us a brief smile and then looked away. In the short moment that he had his eyes on me, I noticed his blue eyes. They were beautiful. Zayn continued, “And these are Lyv, Luisa and Eyrie.”
“Oh, so this is the one you told me about, Harry.” Liam said offering his hand. I gently shook his hand and smiled.
“Harry told you about her?” Zayn asked, curiously.
“Yes, he did. Didn’t you, H?”
“Yeah” The sound of this reply was so low that I could barely listen to it. I could tell that something was wrong with Harry. He wasn’t feeling good but it was more than usual this time. I pushed the thought away and secretly glanced at Niall. He looked as gorgeous as ever in his red t-shirt and mustard coloured pants. His eyes were like a calm sea but his face looked concerned. He was looking at Harry and I’m pretty sure that it wasn’t in a very joyful manner. I thought, maybe, something had happened between the two of them or maybe, Harry was sad about something and that made Niall worry. I couldn’t settle down on one possibility and then Liam spoke up.
“So Eyrie, Niall tells me you need someone to help you with Maths?”
“Yeah. Yes, that would be great. Maths here is a little different from my previous place.”
“I’ll be happy to help. If you want to, we can try an hour today so that you know whether it suites you or not.” he said, being the absolute gentleman that he seemed like.
“That sounds good. Thank you so much.”
“It’s my pleasure. Also, Louis could drop us off, if you want.”
“My mum’s picking us girls up.”
“Oh, that’s totally okay.” he smiled.
“Why don’t you join us? We are heading towards that direction, anyway.”
Liam looked at Louis, who was eyeing him back. “Um.. I think Louis will be okay with dropping me off.”
We all just sat there, silently. I could feel a strange energy round the table. Harry and Niall were still tensed, Liam kept looking at Louis, Louis was constantly eyeing Harry, coldly, Lyv was quiet and I figured Zayn to be the reason for that, Luisa was obviously feeling uncomfortable because she didn’t want to be here and Zayn and I were just talking to each other through our expressions and trying to figure out how to release the thick air.
“Which milkshakes do you all wanna have?” Zayn asked, breaking the deadly silence.
“I’ll have a chocolate milkshake.” Louis said.
“Okay, I will have a mango one and so will Niall. What about the rest of you?”
“I’ll go with Louis.” Liam replied.
“We’ll have mango milkshakes, as well.” Luisa said, speaking for the three of us.
“Harry?”
“I’ll have-”
“Please don’t say banana.” Louis interrupted.
Harry shook his head at that, which made Zayn scowl at Louis before turning his face towards Harry, again.
“H, don’t listen to him. Which one do you want?”
“I’ll have banana.” Harry replied in a very shaky voice.
“Okay. So we’re cool. I’ll go place the order.” Zayn stated, standing up.
“Can I come with you?” I asked hastily.
“Of course.”
We both went over and stood in the queue, waiting for our turn.
“What is wrong with everyone?” I asked.
“Niall and Harry sort of had a fight on the way here.”
“What happened?”
“Nothing special. Harry was about to say something when Niall hit him, harder than he wanted to and Harry has been silent ever since.”
“What about the other two?”
“The other two? Oh, you mean Louis and Liam? Well, Louis is always like that. He doesn’t talk to a lot of juniors. Although, I do think he has some special problem with Harry. He just acts even meaner with him.”
“Do you know why?”
“I have no idea. But I do know that Harry has liked him ever since he came to this town and to this school and that is a long period. You can clearly see the hurt in H’s eyes whenever Louis says something rude.”
I didn’t respond to that. We placed our order and finally got back to our seats. There was a little chitter-chatter, here and there and then, we all stood up to leave. Honestly, I was kind of glad that this was all over. Today was nothing like I thought it would be. There was tension, every second of the hour that we spent in that cafe. I finally felt the sense of freedom as we walked out the door and stepped into the warm air. My mum had already arrived and so, we waved our goodbyes and got into our respective cars.
