To say that the last few days at school had been awkward would be an understatement. Every time Luisa, Lyv and I caught each other’s eye, the air would seem to get constricting and heavy. It was funny how our initial months had turned into this. As much as I tried to put myself in Lyv’s shoes and understand, I just couldn’t. All that she said was too much to be forgiven.
I felt slightly bad for Luisa, though. Even though she didn’t try to stop Lyv or anything, she was still trying to make everything seem fine. She would smile whenever we would pass each other and never give me the evil glare that seemed like a constant on Lyv’s face. So yes, it seemed to me as if she was caught in a crossfire where she wasn’t the one at fault.
We were currently on our way to school. The seating arrangement was the same as usual. Zayn and Niall were in the front while Harry and I were spread out on the backseat. I would be really lucky and the sun would have risen from a different direction when Zayn would let me sit out in the front. I wasn’t really complaining, though. Harry was great company and I enjoyed sitting with him. Speaking of Harry, he was all bubbly and happy today.
“What’s up, Haz? Had a good night?” I teased him.
“Yes, actually. Louis stayed over.” he grinned. I liked seeing him this way.
“Did he, now? He seems to be doing it a lot these days.” Zayn said.
“Come on now, Zayn. Let the boy be.” I said.
“I’m not saying anything.” he defended himself. I knew he was just messing around.
“Yeah, we’re just trying to spend time together, you know.” Harry said, the smile fading away for a millisecond before being up again. “Also, I feel safe when he cuddles me. I’m tired of being alone at home all the time. He takes care and gets me food in the bed even if he can’t cook.” he explained.
I felt my insides flutter at his revelation. I was so happy for him. He totally deserved to be treated like this and I was glad Louis had understood the assignment.
“That’s so sweet, Haz. No wonder you’re full of happy hormones these days.” I said smiling and patting his shoulder. He beamed at me and I poked his right dimple. It has become my favourite thing to do.
“Is this supposed to be a sort of a hint, E?” Niall asked from the front.
“What?” I asked, confused.
“Ya know, girls rarely ever mention things directly so, I thought maybe you wanted me to do all this stuff for you, too.” he shrugged.
“You’re so stereotypical, Ni. This was not a hint and if I ever want you to do something, I would say it right to your face.” I retorted.
“Good cause I’m bad at reading people.” he replied.
“You’re bad at a lot of things, honey.” I said.
“Kissing is definitely not one of them.” he answered and I groaned, hiding my face in my hands.
“Gross. Stop talking about my little sister like that.” Zayn commented, acting to puke.
“Let me tell you, Zayn. Your little sister is wild.” Niall teased.
“Niall!” I exclaimed, completely embarrassed.
“Don’t Niall me. He deserves to know the truth.” Niall said.
“Why are you like this, again?” Zayn groaned.
“I was built this way.” Niall smirked.
The rest of the car ride was pretty much filled with Niall making dirty comments, Zayn and I mumbling profanities at him and Harry looking on, totally amused. At one point, I wanted to punch both, Niall for embarrassing me even more with every passing remark and Harry for looking so entertained with everything. I acted against my instincts and kept my hands to myself, though.
