Sometimes it don't go your way, sometimes you gotta
Sometimes
Sometimes it don't go your way, sometimes, sometimes
You gotta (oh yeah)I had a plan, I had it mapped out
I knew where I was going when I left out
You couldn't tell me that I wouldn't be there on time
I had some guarantees, I had a deadline
May 2005
You layed on your bed staring at the ceiling tired of hearing your phone ring for the seventh time that night. You knew why everyone was calling you, but you really didn't feel like talking, you didn't need to hear any of their sympathetic speeches, or see any of their sorrowful looks.
Especially not today.
You put your phone on mute, and pulled the sheets over your head wishing this day would be over as soon as possible.
That's when you heard him outside your bedroom door.
Marshall
"Y/N open the door." His voice yelled sounding irritated.
"No go away!" You yelled back.
"Don't make me kick this door down!" He threatened.
"Please you were struggling to open a bag of chips just yesterday, go home Marshall!" You bit back really just wanting him to leave.
"I've been to the gym since!" He defended. "I'm benching 185!" He stressed.
You couldn't help the laugh that escaped your throat, "See I heard you laugh, now open the door!" He said continuing to pound on it like he was the FBI or something.
"Okay just don't break my door remember I am only renting this house!" You yelled in defeat as you got up and opened the door, not even looking at him as he walked in, you went right back to your bed and put the covers over you.
"Have you been here all day?" He asked laying down next to you.
"Where else would I be?" You questioned.
"I don't know...anywhere but here." He said.
"It's mother's day...you call your mom at all?" You asked knowing good and well they weren't on the best terms still.
"I'm still mad at her." He admitted.
"Your careers growing..you don't really need her support anymore anyway.." You agreed. "But..she's still your mom." You said.
"I didn't come here for you to lecture me." Marshall cut in, "Everybody's been worried about you since.."
"Since I found out I can't have kids?" You finished his sentence.
"Y/N.." He said softly.
"It's fine, probably wouldn't have been good at it anyway." You forced a laugh.
"You know that ain't true." Marshall frowned.
"I wish I had the opportunity of finding out." You said trying not to cry. "Marshall I had it all figured out, i'd be married by 27, kids by 29, a successful career, a pretty house in the suburbs, and here I am 34 and the only thing I've accomplished is renting out a crappy house in Detroit and a job working for a bunch of loud mouthed idiots." You sighed.
"Hey don't diss D 12 like that." He said feigning offense.
You rolled your eyes, "I'm serious Marshall, what is wrong with me?" You asked taking the covers off your head and staring right into those familiar blue eyes that have been with you through mostly everything.
"I don't know..Y/N sometimes shit don't go your way." He said truthfully.
You frowned at his answer.
"But that doesn't mean it won't." He said before you could respond, "Look getting to where I am now wasn't easy either, but some of the best things in life don't come easy right?" He asked as you pouted.
"But the doctor said-"
"Screw the doctor, go get some second opinions, and hell if that don't work adopt, and if that don't work feel free to take Nathan he getting on my nerves lately." He said.
"What Nathan do?" You asked.
"Uhg going crazy over some girl, now he's dying his hair blonde and trying to write rhymes to impress her, man used up all my bleach, can't dye my hair or mop the damn floors." He complained.
You laughed, "I'll talk with him, he's never gonna get any girl acting like that." You said.
"Hey he's just imitating me." Marshall quipped.
"Exactly, this why you single too." You jabbed.
He shot you the middle finger and you laughed grabbing his finger and twisting it until he apologized.
"Aight, aight aight! I'm sorry chill!!" he said taking back his hand.
"Better be." You mumbled.
"See, your already a perfect mom." He noted causing you to look at him in shock until a smile cut across your face.
"Well somebody gotta look after y'all idiots." You shrugged.
"I guess." He said getting off the bed and stretching, "Anyway get dressed we going out." He said.
"Out?"
"Yup, there's a all you can eat buffet in downtown Detroit, Bizarre wanted to check it out." He said.
"Buffet, i'm there!" You said immediately getting up and looking for something to wear.
Before he left out the door he came up to you and placed a quick kiss on your cheek, "Happy Mother's Day Y/N." He said leaving the room before you could even say anything.
You smiled realizing until you had your own kids, your friends would have to due in the meantime.
