Through the years you were well aware that you always kind of faded into the background.
You weren't flashy, you weren't over the top, but you had just enough talent to gain you some notice in the world of blitzy stars.
With Marshall you weren't any different, you had spent most of your life being sort of his shadow, you were seen as more of a secretary than a friend to him.
And you endured that torture through the years, why? It's simple, you loved him.
It wasn't a huge secret, everyone knew it, and you were certain that even he knew it, but he never brought it up.
Which immediately gave you the impression he wasn't interested.
Now here you both stood in your kitchen just chatting about history, and everything in between.
"I'm really sorry if I was ever a jerk to you." Marshall suddenly apologized after coming off a laughing fit.
"Where'd that come from?" You asked widening your eyes.
"I don't know, I just felt like I needed to apologize to everyone for my past behavior." He shrugged rubbing a hand through his beard almost nervously.
"I forgave you a long time ago Marshall." You answered honestly.
"What exactly did I do..to you I mean?" He asked searching for some type of answer.
"Really, you don't even know what your apologizing for?" I laughed at the man.
"Not really, everything's a blur from back then." He admitted.
"You didn't do anything that everyone else wasn't already doing Marshall." You assured hoping he didn't feel to guilty for ignoring you, mostly everyone else treated you like the white paint on the walls, in their eyes you didn't add anything to the room, you just existed for later changes.
"What does that mean?" He asked looking confused.
"You treated me like I was just there, nothing too special, yet necessary, like a dim light in a room, Not the brightest, but necessary into order to see..Or like a white wall that needs color." You explained seeing his mouth open in protest.
You shook your head quickly, "No its fine, I guess I just felt like I was kind of just your secretary instead of someone you actually saw as a friend at times." You admitted fidgeting with your hands as you admitted your past feelings about the two of you.
He stared at you sympathetically and shook his head, "I'm sorry I made you feel like you were just an assistant." He said.
"It's fine I mean now you see me right?"
"It's not fine, Y/N I never thought of you as an assistant or a dim light." He said honestly while stepping up to directly face you.
"Marshall-"
"I never thought of you as a dim light because from all the things I don't remember back in the day, I do remember I always thought you were the brightest person in the room." He said looking at you head on making your heart race.
Your eyes widened at this revelation "Seriously?" You asked him almost barely above a whisper as you searched his eyes for any lies.
You found none.
"And I'm not just seeing you Y/N, because I always saw you..I mean how can you not see the brightest person in the room?" He asked more to himself than to you.
You couldn't believe what you were hearing but you bit your lip and waited for him to continue.
"I mean if anything I was the white wall and you were the color, full of bright blues, reds, oranges, and purple..but never grey." He said taking your hand causing a bright smile to pull onto your lips.
"So yeah, I might've been out of it a lot back then, but if I didn't see anything, I sure as hell saw you." He said giving you a small smile of his own.
