Gosh, it's finally here, I worked my but off and now I'm exhausted but I'm pretty glad about how this turned out. I only have a few gripes about it but I have gripes about everything I write
The spark that started everything.
"Daddy", the small child tugged at the hem of the king's coat tail as he tried his best to ignore him. He had been walking around the castle preparing for his departure the entire morning but his child would not give him one moment to himself. The servant just watched in silence as their king was being slightly neglectful to his first and only child, all not daring to say anything or even acknowledge the miniature version of their king, "Daddy!", the child continued to call for his father's attention only to be looked over.
The honey eyes finally decided to look down at the young child, barely four years old, knowing that if he carried on this way his son would only try harder tactics to get his attention. He saw the grin spread from ear to ear finally grabbing the much-wanted attention. "Daddy can I go with you?", it was asked so sweetly and innocent no person with a heart would decline.
"No", the man said with a straight face and very little remorse watching the grin turn into a frown that quivered a bit. The child released his grip and backed away slowly from the man, he had been begging for his father's attention most of the morning only to be told no. He waited there silently for a moment but no explanation was given. Instead, the man gave out a sigh of frustration and the child knew that it was his queue to leave the man be.
The servants just observed the interaction. It was a regular activity that happened in the castle because the king was a very neglectful father but an amazing king. It was very rare to find a king with their family life and royal duties balanced and their ruler was not included in the exception; unlike most others who made an effort he did, no such thing. Day in and day out the prince would beg for his father's attention only to be ignored or scooped up by the caretaker who seemed to give a damn.
The vision was clouded by the tears that were swelling up in the amber marbles, leading him to bump right into the person he was looking for. "What's the matter sweetheart?", a delicate finger wiped away a teardrop that threatened to roll down the tanned cheeks. The woman crouched down to be face to face with the child, a concerned look on her face. Small lips began to move but almost everything came out to nothing but a mutter, although there was one thing that was heard clear as day.
Without another the word being spoken, the tall woman stood up and marched in the direction of the king, her vision tinted red with rage. Passing by several servants, the wind from her hurried footsteps blowing many of their aprons along in her direction.
Finally reaching her destination, she had her grey eyes set on the spiky-haired king who was talking with a servant, "Ging!", she never bothered to be so formal with the man especially when angry. "What did you say to Gon?", she knew her brother had a history of ignoring his one and only son but it rarely brought the child to tears, she wanted an explanation and she wanted it immediately.
"Calm down Mito", he turned around seeing her eyes practically glowing red with fury, he took a gulp knowing that the wrong misstep would only make her angrier. "I simply told him he couldn't go with me to Kukuroo Kingdom", he shrugged nonchalantly. The trip was mostly business and a child would only slow him down.
"Yes he is", she retorted. If Gon was crying he must've really wanted to tag along, probably because he heard that the Zoldycks had several children, the young prince probably thinks he could have someone to play with for a few days at least. Being the only child was a blessing and curse, he was the only heir to the throne but it got lonely in the castle. Mito knew that with all the love and attention she gave her nephew he still yearned for other children to interact with. "I'll go pack him some luggage"
