Part 2 of 3 flashback chapters
"You deserved it after all", Mito was going over all of the things that will be coming the way of the young prince. He was to be made the official heir of the kingdom in a huge ceremony, but it wasn't anything special to him anyways, it was obvious to everyone that he would be the next king to rule. His father wasn't having any more children, and Mito said that Gon was enough for her, in all honesty, he was sure that Ging had him because the council demanded an heir from the royal bloodline.
"I'm excited!", he chimed. It was a couple of weeks after his fifth birthday and he has been overwhelmed with lessons he could barely think of but to have even a single day to relax and do nothing was enough for him.
"You will have to engage with the visitors", Mito burst his bubble, the idea of slacking thrown out the window.
He was seated in her study, lessons had recently concluded for the day and the two usually did something together in the late afternoon but with the formal announcement around the corner she was preoccupied, but sitting in her company was the second-best thing.
"Now who am I missing?", she began to read off allied Kingdoms that were invited to the ceremony. All of them he had heard before either from his father when conducting business or his tutor when learning who he could lean on in the future. None of them stuck but one in particular. The Kukuroo Kingdom. The child practically jumped out of his seat, thinking about how he would get the case to see his friend once more. "They declined the invitation", the words shattered the alpha's heart hearing the news.
Mito noticed the quick change in attitude, covering her mouth once she had realized what she had said. She had heard it all about the child with the hair white as snow and eyes blue as the seven seas, Gon described the child more like an angel or legendary creature than an actual person. A week after he had returned from his trip that all he talked about, Mito thought it cute, her beloved nephew found a friend. But she heard about the treaty her brother had signed she had lost it, 'irresponsible', as she called him. If she would've known the father-son bonding would turn into a whole future marriage situation she would've never allowed Gon to go with him.
The decision was done and there was nothing she could do about it but be a supportive aunt. "I'm sorry", she could only hope her words made the child feel better, though she doubted it.
The dark hair swayed as the prince shook his head, "no", he responded, "Ki has to come", his voice brimming with determination. He hadn't seen his 'friend' in a little over two months, he would always remember the pretty face but all he had was his memories and that wasn't good enough without seeing him regularly.
"He's right", a voice came from the door just as it opened revealing the current king himself, the two were bound together, while Gon can't just go and demand Killua's hand in marriage for so many years, he could request his presence at such an event. The decision would be almost non-negotiable.
Mito cut her eyes at the man, the last thing she wanted was for the small alpha to go around demanding things just because he could, those weren't good traits of any leader. It could be several reasons why they decided not to come and just forcing them wasn't ideal. But as a mere beta, getting through to them was nearly impossible and she didn't want the extra headache. "Okay ", she let out a sigh, "I'll send them another letter". She wanted to smile at the child cheering over the small victory but she knew this could spiral into something deeper.
Getting up from her seat, she gently grabbed the child by his wrist pulling him out of his chair. "I'm sure you're hungry", she walked him to the door despite his protests that he wasn't. "Now now a growing boy needs nourishment", she waved her finger back and forth, "I'll be down in a second", she politely escorted him out of her study, closing and locking the door behind him, leaving her and Ging in the room alone.
