Alex's POV:
I was sitting in history waiting for time to go by so that I could see her next period. There was five minutes of class left, and my heart was racing.
When the bell finally rang, I hurridely packed up my books and walked out the door. I was walking to my locker when I was stopped by Beth.
"Hi, Alex," she said.
"Hi," I replied. I don't know what she wanted, but we were through. We dated during eight grade year and freshman year. We broke up because one) we grew apart and two) we had both cheated on each other.
"I miss you," she said. "I miss us." I believe her, but I'm over her. I don't want to be with her anymore.
"I'm sorry," I said, "but I have a girlfriend, now. And I'm loyal to her." I said referring to my neighbor who wasn't really my girlfriend, but she did agree to go on a date with me.
"Like you were loyal to me?" She asked.
"Beth," I said. "You cheated on me too!"
"Yeah, but at least I gave my V-card to someone who deserved it."
"Really?" I asked. "I thought it was just some hook-up at a party. Do you even remember his name?"
At this her face went white. Like she'd just fallen dead and there was no blood in her veins. "Whatever, Alex." She finally said. "I have to get to class."
"Wait, Beth," I called out but she was still storming away from me. I didn't mean to hurt her feelings. I mean, I have feelings for Beth, she's my friend and I care for her, but I don't love her. Not anymore. We draw the line at friends.
I started towards my locker. Next to her. I'm really curious as to what her name is. Hopefully I'd find out this class period.
I opened my locker. There was no sign of her yet. Maybe while Beth was confessing her undying love for me, she'd already gone to class. I grabbed my books, spun around on my heel, ready to go to class, when Beth was standing right behind me.
"Beth," I said, surprised. Then I calmed down, "I'm sorry. About what I said. You're my friend, and I still care for you, but only as friends."
She nodded taking this in. "Friends." She said. "Forever?"
I nodded. And pulled her into a hug. She hugged back. Then someone behind me cleared there throat. I turned to see her standing there.
"Nina," Beth said as if she'd known her her whole life.
"Beth," she said. In a somewhat flat tone.
"Nina?" I said. Admiring her name. She nodded. I smiled at her but she didn't smile back.
"My locker," she said pointing to her locker that Beth and I were standing in front of. And she separated us with her.
The three of us walked to science class, which we had together. We walked in searching for our name at the lab tables. I found my in the second to front row. I was seatmates with Beth. And sitting directly behind Beth, was Nina.
I turned around and leaned closer to her so that only she could her me. "Not only are you in my class, but you sit close to me too." I laughed, then, "you must not be able to get enough of me."
"And Beth?" She asked. "Who's she to you?" She rolled her eyes, opened her notebook and took out her pink pen.
I turned back around confused, as Mr. Hall said, "Take your seats and face the board. There's the abbrievation for some of the elements on the periodic table. Write the correct answers on a piece of notebook paper and flip your page over when you are done." Everyone did as he said.
