Alex's POV:
I woke up to the sound of my alarm jumping on top of me. In this case, my alarm is Angie. "Alex," she said, bouncing on top of me, "Wake up!"
Finally, resisting the urge to sleep forever, I sat up. "What, Angie?" I asked.
"Mommy said that Nina can go to school today!" She yelled.
This got me straight up. Although she only didn't come to school yesterday, it was bugging me. I missed her. I hated that I didn't get to see her at school. I would go to my locker, and no one would be there. The thought of something being wrong always popped in my head. I couldn't stand it if she couldn't go today.
I raced into my bathroom, jumping in the shower, quickly cleaning myself, and got dressed. I grabbed my toothbrush and ran downstairs. I grabbed a plate and filled it with the freshly scrambled eggs that mom had just cooked.
I ate half of it, and quickly, and put the other half in a plastic sandwhich baggie. Then I walked into the bathroom to brush my teeth. I brushed my teeth, and then headed back upstairs. 8:30 with thirty minutes to spare to pick up Nina and make it to school.
I threw on my jacket, stuffed my phone and keys into one pocket, set my toothbrush on my dresser and walked out the door closing it behind me.
"Mom," I called out. "I'm heading out for school." There was no reply from my mother, but Angie came from out of the living room.
"Mommy's sleeping," then she put one finger to her lips, "Shhhhh." I nodded, grabbed my book bag from the dining room chair, and headed out the front door.
I walked into the drive way, threw my bag into the front seat of my car and then walked up onto Nina's porch. I was about to knock three times, when the door opened. It was Nina.
"Hey," she said. Her raspy voice from yesterday was gone, but you could hear the cold and stuffiness in her voice. "I was waiting for you."
"Hey," I said, a smile brightened my face then it spread to her face, too. "School's unbearable without you." I said.
She leaned over, grabbed her bookbag off the stairs and stepped outside. "I miss you guys too." She said. And she meant it, although we saw each other yesterday.
"Ready?" I asked, extending out my arm for her to grab on. She nodded, locking her arm in mine. Then I helped her down the stairs, because she was still weak from being sick. "You know you don't have to go to school," I said, knowing that I would rather her be safe and healthy than having to have her around.
She nodded. "I want to go," she said. "I already finished my English Paper, and I want to take it in early." I walked her over to the passenger side of the door, and opened it for her.
Once she got in and sat down I closed the door. Then I walked over to my side. I took my bookbag out of my seat and threw it in the back seat. Then I stuck the key into the ignition ready to zoom off, but I was stopped by Joan.
"Wait," she called out, running down the stairs with a white tank top, red and blue plaid shorts, and a black house robe on. She walked over to the passenger side. "Hi, Alex," she said.
"Hi," I said, putting my hand up in a waving motion.
"Nina," she said now turning her direction to her daughter. "You forgot you medicine," she said. Then she handed her two pills. Nina pulled a water bottle from her bag.
"Thanks," Nina responded. Then she popped one pill in and took a gulp of her water. Then she took the other.
"Also, you'll be getting out of school at one, today. You have a doctors appointment," her mom finished. Nina nodded.
