Alex's POV:

After science, the bell rings. Nina is already out the door. I quickly pack my books and head after her. "Nina!" I called out, "wait!" She stopped and turned around.

When I caught up to her she said, "What do you want? Our lockers are right next to each other and you couldn't just tell me then?"

"Why are you mad at me?" I asked. She shook her head.

"I'm not. Was Beth mad at you our something? Is that why you were hugging her?"

I laughed. Finally getting what all of this was about. She was jealous.

"Why are you laughing at me? I didn't think I was telling a joke."

"You're fiesty, you know that, right?" I asked. She rolled her eyes and started to walk away, but I grabbed her arm, turning her around.

"What?" She asked, looking up into my eyes. I bodies were only a couple inches apart.

"She's my ex. She still loves me. I don't feel that way for her anymore."

"That's all the explanation I get?" She asked.

"For now," I said. "Mark the date. Friday August 25th. Also known as our first date.". Then I let go of her arm which was resting against my side, and let it fall to her side. Then I walked away.

I heard her footsteps behind me. "Are you following me?" I asked.

"Our lockers are next to each other," she said.

"Right," I said. Then I let her catch up to me, us walking side by side.

We didn't talk for the rest of the day until our walk home. We were both supposed to take the bus, by I asked if she wanted to walk home instead.

"Beth is just my friend," I said. "She wanted to get back together but I told her I have a girlfriend."

"So you lied to her?" Nina asked.

"Not exactly, because technically I almost have a girlfriend," I said.

"Who me?" She said jokingly innocent.

"No the lady who delivers our mail," I try to say in a serious voice. And I think she bought it too.

"What?" She said her smile half fading. She stopped walking and so did I.

I picked her up and spun her around. "No. Weirdo. It's you!" I said.

She laughed then, "Good, because the mail lady is like 30."

I looked up at her. My hands and arms wrapping around the top of her thighs. She was looking down on me, smiling. So I smiled too. She was just so gorgeous.

"You can put me down now," she said.

"What if I don't want to?" I asked. She smiled.

"Fine," she said. Then she pretended to be mad. She put on her pout face.

"Okay. Okay." I said, putting her down.

"So back to this Beth," Nina said. "What's she like?"

"Why?" I asked.

"Well, before I knew anything about you two, me and her sort of became friends during first period. And is she always as preppy as she was this morning?" She responded.

"No," I replied, "Only when she meets new people." She laughed.

"Okay," then she stopped walking. I was so distracted by her that I didn't even notice we were standing in front of my house. "2187769518." Her phone number. She repeated it then walked away.
