An: Thank you for reading my book 😊 Sorry for the long wait and for any grammatical errors

"Where have you been?"

Nancy said giving me a disapproving look with her arms crossed. I froze where I was wondering how she turned on the light while she was in the middle of the room. I opened and closed my mouth like a fish out of water for about a minute before I remember that she asked me a question.

"I was at the library," I replied nervously.

"Why were you with those two losers?" She angrily asked marching over to me and getting into my face.

"They were helping me with the classwork I missed."

"Why didn't you ask me?" She said rudely.

"Because I didn't want to bother you," I said truthfully. I still don't know why she's so nice to me. It could be a trick.

"Why do you think would you bother me?" She asked her voice softening. "Do you still not remember everything?"

I shook my head no and she seemed like she was about to cry. She motioned for me to wait and went rummaging in her closet looking for something. I heard her cursing under her breath when something fell with a loud thunk. I was about to go help her when she stumbled out of the closet now holding a small chest. She walked over to me and handed it to me.

"This should help you remember," she softly whispered. "I'll leave so you have some privacy."

She gave me one last look of what seemed like regret before leaving. What was that about? I thought as I opened the chest. Inside was a diary with my name on it and some pictures. I decided to look at the pictures first. The first picture was a young man and a young women whom I assume were a couple. The man had caramel colored skin and eyes like chocolate. He was staring lovingly at the woman who was looking at the camera. The woman had peach colored skin and eyes like emeralds.

The second picture was the same couple a little older. The woman was now heavily pregnant and they both looked so happy. The third picture was the woman excitedly holding her baby with the man looking at the both of them with so much love. The fourth and last picture was me at the age of five standing infront of the couple smiling while holding up a sign that said 'Big Sis'. What?

I decided to read the diary since it had my name on it. I opened it and read the first entry.

Dear diary,

Today was my birthday. I turned five. I got this as a present from my mommy. She said she had one around my age. She also says that I might be five, but I'm really advanced for my age. I don't know what that means. I hope it's good. I don't want to disappoint her. Well it's time for me to eat dinner so I'll write in you later.

Love,
Y/n

I flipped through the pages, skimming each one learning that Nancy's mom and my mom were twins. I also learned that Nancy hadn't always been nice to me. After I saved her from drowning in her personal lake when we were 6, she became much nicer. I had a younger brother named Toby whom I adored according to the diary. Then I got to the last entry halfway through the book. I flipped through the rest to find it empty. I went back to the last entry to read it thoroughly.

Dear diary,

Today is Nancy's 10th birthday. My family and I are all attending. Her party has an entire petting zoo along with many food trucks. If she wasn't my cousin, I don't think I'd hang out with her. She's nice to me, but she's so mean to those she doesn't like. I think I'm going to tell her I don't want anything to do with her anymore. Well, I've got to go now. Hopefully, this goes well and as always I'll write you later.

Love,
Y/n

I stared in shock wondering what happened after this. While I was lost in thought, Nancy came back. I didn't notice until she cleared her throat.

"Did you read it?" She asked.

"Yes."

"Then you know we are cousins."

"What happened? It ends on your 10th birthday," I asked confused.

She looked at me with such sadness I genuinely felt bad. "On your way to my party, your car was hit by a drunk driver. You were the only survivor. Your parents and younger brother were killed on the spot. You were in a coma for 3 months before you woke up. When you woke up, you didn't remember anything. After months, you finally regained most of your memories. Sometimes you forget again and I try to help you the best I can, but there's only so much I can do."

I stared at her in shock when I realized she was crying. She started to cry even harder while repeatedly apologizing for being a terrible person. She kneeled to the floor still crying. I felt bad so I went over to her and gave her a hug. I tried to calm her down the best I could. After awhile, she stopped crying and I heard her snoring softly. I gently picked her up and put her in her bed.

I changed into my pajamas and put the pictures and diary back in the box. I set the box down on my dresser. I then got in my bed glad I finally figured out what my life story was here. I slowly drifted to sleep with only one more question on my mind.

Why was I sent here?
