An: thank you for reading my book 😌 and congrats 🎉 you'll find out for what next week 😉
The next week I adjusted to my new cabin with my new brothers. Since I was doing activities with Castor and Pollux, I wasn't able to hang out with Percy much. Fortunately, I was able to sneak to his cabin one night before lights out. I saw a copy of the New York Daily News on the floor that I made sure to roll over before picking up.
"Hey, Percy," I greeted when he walked in.
"Hey, Y/n."
"Someone left this for you," I said waving the slightly dirtier newspaper.
"Thanks," Percy sarcastically replied taking the paper.
"Do you want me to read it for you?" I asked when I realized how much he was struggling.
"Yes, please," Percy sighed handing the paper back.
I read the offending article for the now angry Percy. I made sure to take the paper with me when I left to go back to my cabin. I stopped by the hearth to throw the newspaper into the fire making me feel a bit better.
I was hanging out with Chiron and my new dad the next day playing Uno. It still feels weird to call him that. And whom is this invisible person playing with us? I thought as Percy and Grover walked up.
"Well, well," Me. D started putting down a red four. "Our little celebrity."
"Don't be mean to my friend," I said slamming down a blue four. "Come closer, Percy. He's just pissed cause he's losing."
"If I had my way," Mr. D continued ignoring me, "I would cause your molecules to erupt in flames -"
"And then I'd have to avenge him."
"We'd sweep up the ashes and be done with the trouble-"
"Aren't you supposed to keep us from harm? Not cause it?"
"Y/n is right. Spontaneous combustion is a form of harm, Mr. D," Chiron said putting down a draw four. "Green."
"Nonsense," Mr. D scowled drawing four. "Boy wouldn't feel a thing. Nevertheless, I've agreed to restrain myself. I'm thinking of turning you into a dolphin instead-"
"Why is it always dolphins? Can't you change it up once and awhile?"
"And what would you have me do instead?" Mr. D asked raising a brow.
"I don't know. Maybe like a shark or a blowfish." I shrugged placing a green plus two down.
"Alright, I'll turn him into a blowfish." Mr. D nodded patting my head.
"Thank you."
"Do I get a say in this?" Percy asked.
"No." Mr. D and I said at the same time.
"I win," Chiron said placing down his last card.
"All right," Mr. D sighed standing up. "I'm off to Olympus for the emergency meeting. If the boy is still here when I get back, I'll turn him into the smallest blowfish you'll ever see. Do you understand? And Perseus Jackson, if you're at all smart, you'll see that's a much more sensible choice than what Chiron feels you must do."
Mr. D did his fancy magic trick and disappeared leaving a nice refreshing grape smell behind.
"Sit, Percy, please. And Grover."
They sat down at the table. Grover was looking at me with newfound admiration. Chiron and Grover started their talk with Percy. They were still surprised when Percy said something smart. I zoned out for most of the conversation watching the people in the distance only tuning back in when it started to rain.
"Zeus is such a loser," I mumbled earning a surprised look from everyone else at the table. "What? He is."
"Y/n," Chiron started before getting cut off by a lightning bolt close to the house.
"And his aim sucks," I glared at the sky.
"So I have to find the stupid bolt," Percy cut in before I could say anything else stupid. "And return it to Zeus."
"What better peace offering than to have the son of Poseidon return Zeus's property?" Chiron said thankful for the change of conversation.
I zoned out again because I already know all this information anyway. I waved at Percy as he left to go to the Oracle. Poor lady. Grover took a seat next to me. Chiron lectured me the whole time Percy was gone on something. I admit I didn't listen at all.
"Oh look," I said interrupting Chiron. "Percy's back"
"Well?" Chiron asked Percy as he slumped into a chair.
"She said I would retrieve what was stolen."
"That's great!" Grover exclaimed chewing on a diet Coke can.
"What did the Oracle say exactly?" Chiron pressed like the nosey guy he is. "This is important."
"She...she said I would go west and face a god who had turned. I would retrieve what was stolen and see it safely returned."
"I knew it," Grover nodded.
"Anything else?" Chiron prodded some more.
"No. That's about it." Percy said hesitatingly. Liar.
I decided to take a small nap since none of this had anything to do with me. Luckily for me, no one was paying attention to me now. I awoke when Grover screamed no.
"Percy, what are you thinking? Have you ever been in a plane in your life?"
"No, he hasn't," I yawned.
"Percy, think," Chiron said, wiping some drool from my mouth. "You are the son of the Sea God. Your father's bitterest rival is Zeus, Lord of the Sky. Your mother knew better than to trust you in an airplane. You would be in Zeus's domain. You would never come down again alive."
"How petty," I mumbled.
"Okay," Percy said, staring at the table. "So, I'll travel overland."
"That's right," Chiron agreed. "Two companions may accompany you. Grover is one. The other has already volunteered, if you will accept her help."
"Gee. Who else would be stupid enough to volunteer for a quest like this?" Percy said not at all surprised.
"Her," I answered his rhetorical question and pointed behind Chiron just as Annabeth shimmered into sight.
"I've been waiting a long time for a quest, seaweed brain," Annabeth huffed. "Athena is no fan of Poseidon, but if you're going to save the world, I'm the best person to keep you from messing up."
"If you do say so yourself, I suppose you have a plan, wise girl?" Percy asked.
"Do you want my help or not?" Annabeth flushed.
"A trio," Percy smiled. "That'll work."
As soon as the questers were decided, a lightning bolt stuck the ground where the previous one had leaving a note behind. Annabeth was nice enough to go get the note. She handed the note to Chiron who then handed it to me. I took the note that happened to have my name. Another note? How lovely.
I opened the note and a horrified gasp left my mouth as I read the second note that I received from Zeus.
"What does it say?"
