Derek POV:

I ran as fast as I could. Even with my werewolf eyesight, it was easy to miss things like rocks and sticks. Even drops.

I grunted as I fell on my face, the uneven terrain causing me to slip.

Pain exploded in my ear and I looked up to see an ultrasonic emitter right in front of me. I quickly covered my ears, picked myself up.

I could hear the hunters nearby, so I ran.

All of a sudden, I knocked into something- someone.

"Ah!" I grunted as we collided. It was a boy, a werewolf.

"You're a Hale, aren't you?" the boy asked me, his eyes widening.

He jerked back and I saw an arrow sticking out of his neck. He fell back, revealing a hunter pointing a crossbow right at me.

I rose to my full height, staring at the man. He released the arrow.

I braced myself for the hit, but it never came.

I opened my eyes to see Peter clutching the arrow right in front of my chest. He quickly grabbed me and we ran to what looked like a cellar underneath a tree.

"Get in! Go!" Peter harshly whispered to me. We quickly got in and hid underneath the roots.

"Is this the one?" the leader, Gerard Argent, asked.

"Killed 2 of ours," his son, Chris Argent, replied. "Find the others. Bring them back alive. We go by the code."

Peter and I heavily panted, relieved we weren't caught.

Hana POV:

"They were there for 2 days, waiting, hiding. That's what we're taught to do when the hunters find us- hide and heal," Cora tells us as she stares out the loft window.

It's been less than a day, and the world still feels empty.

Derek left last night, unable to do anything but mourn. Cora and I are mourning, but our grief doesn't compare to what Derek's feeling.

"Ok, so is 2 days standard, then? Or are we thinking Derek's on, like, some extended getaway?" Stiles paces around the loft. Rica is on the bed sleeping. I know she feels the missing presence of him. She's in mourning, too.

I grit my teeth at his response. Cora and I share a tight look before turning to face him.

"Why do you care?" Cora scoffs.

"Why do I care? Let's see..." I cross my arms and give Stiles a hard glare. "Because over the last few weeks, my best friend's tried to kill himself. His boss got nearly got ritually sacrificed. A girl that I've known since I was 3  was ritually sacrificed. Boyd was killed my alphas." Cora and I wince. "Do you want me to keep going? Because I can, all right? For, like, an hour."

"You think Derek can do anything about that?" I glare at him.

"Well, since he's the one everyone seems to be after, it's more like he should do something about it, yeah."

"You insensitive son of a-"

"There's something different about him now," Cora cuts me off. I huff but shut my mouth.

Stiles wouldn't- doesn't understand. Derek needs space. None of this is Derek's fault. Derek doesn't owe anyone anything. If Stiles is right, if Derek really is the target, then he has bigger things to worry about. Like his life.
