"It's a beautiful Monday morning! Beacon Hills High School is back open after being closed Thursday and Friday. Police Search continues for alleged killer Derek Hale..."
I shut the radio off as I make my tea in the kitchen, Rica standing next to me. She hasn't left my side since last Wednesday after the attack at the school. I know she's upset that I didn't bring her, but I'm glad I didn't. She would've gotten hurt.
Aunt Kate and Dad are already in the car and Mom is at her morning pilates class, so it's just Cel and I left in the house.
I've been anxiously waiting for news on Derek all weekend, but there is nothing. I've been in contact with Stiles, but Cel and I are still ignoring Scott. Stiles updates me every couple hours. And so far, I keep getting the same text:
⏤
No news on Derek.
⏤
I've tried not to think about him, but it's getting harder as the days drag by.
Is he alive? Where is he hiding? Are his wounds healing? Did the beast go after him again?
I sigh as I blow on my hot tea and put a lid on the cup, shaking my thoughts from him. I decided on Chai this morning, hoping that the kick will help me get through my awful morning.
I'm wearing a leather jacket as a salute to Derek, paired with a purple tank, white jeans, and white sneakers.
"Cel! Are you ready to leave soon? Aunt Kate and Dad have been in the car for over 10 minutes!" I yell.
"Coming!" my sister responds, rushing down the stairs. I make sure to give Rica a kiss on her head before heading out to the car.
No one talks on the drive, only the sounds of the radio echoing through the car. We pull up to the school and Cel goes to unlock the door for us to get out.
She groans, the door locked. I see my dad turning his head to survey every inch of the parking lot.
"Dad," I sigh. "If you're going to insist on driving us to school, you at least have to let us out of the car."
"Kate, what's your opinion on homeschooling?" Dad turns to her in the passenger seat. Cel rolls her eyes before giving Dad a look.
"Hm," Aunt Kate draws out. "Well, you know, I'm more of a learning-by-doing kind of girl." Cel smiles.
"What's your opinion on overprotective dads who keep ruining their daughters' lives?" Cel jokes. Aunt Kate turns to look back at us before reaching over Dad to unlock the car door. She gives him a cheeky grin as she sits back in her seat. Dad gives her an exasperated look. I giggle.
"Thanks, Aunt Kate," I give her a smile.
"You're welcome," she replies as Cel opens the door for us to get out. I slide out of the seat, blow Dad a kiss, and hug Aunt Kate from behind the seat before getting out and shutting the door.
Kate POV:
I stare at my lovely nieces as they walk together through the front doors of the school.
"So, Chris..." I turn back to my brother.
"Don't," he abruptly states. "Just... your look communicates it perfectly." He turns to look away from me, returning to surveying the parking lot for any signs of danger. "Yes, I underestimated the danger. Yes, we should've acted sooner. Yes, I should've listened to you. Anything else? Or does that cover it?"
I don't appreciate the attitude, but I know that he just feels guilty for Hana and Allison.
"All I was going to say is you need to stop and get some gas," I smirk. Chris glances at the tank and sees that it's empty. He gives me a look before putting the car in "drive" and heading to the nearest gas station.
