I sprint into the animal clinic to find Melissa injecting something into Hayden who is lying down on the table. Liam is standing beside her looking so worried.
"Oh god," I gasp as I take in the state of her. Hayden is covered in black splotches and her face is sickly pale. She doesn't look like she's even moving.
"Hana?" Liam turns at my voice and pulls me into a hug. "You're here. You're really here."
"I came as soon as I heard. I'm here for you, Liam. All of you," I tell him softly, relishing in finally having him with me again. "How is she?"
Liam sighs painfully. "Not good. Scott refuses to bite her, so Ms. McCall is trying to save her."
I don't know how to react to the news about Scott, already having so many mixed emotions about everything that went down in the past 12 hours, so I push him aside. My focus is on Liam and Hayden.
I eye the look on Melissa's face. "She's not getting worse, isn't she?" I ask softly.
"Yeah," Melissa nods. "Which is why we're taking her to the hospital."
"How is that going to help?" Liam objects.
"We're in an animal clinic and I need equipment designed for humans," Melissa explains shortly. "I said that we're going to take her to the hospital. I didn't say we're going through the front door."
We quickly make our way to the hospital and Melissa sets up an IV drip. Hayden has reigned consciousness but is in a tremendous amount of pain. Melissa presses the button for floor 4 while Liam and I watch Hayden carefully, wishing there was something, anything we could do.
She grunts in pain and suddenly, a small black drop of liquid appears in the IV bag. Liam sees It too and his eyes go wide with worry. "What's happening?"
"I'm not sure," Melissa says carefully. "But t's definitely not good."
Sweat cakes Hayden's face and her hand trembles as she reaches for Liam. He immediately grabs hers to provide any hint of comfort. "My sister..." Hayden croaks.
"Scott's out looking for her right now," Melissa assures her. "He's going to bring her here as soon as he can, all right?" Hayden attempts to nod, but she then passes out from the pain once again.
Liam clutches Hayden's hand like a life line. I grab Melissa's in mine. We have to hope Hayden can pull through.
Because the look in Liam's eyes? That can't mean anything good.
Third Person POV:
Scott walks into the school library, having gotten a message from her to meet him there. "Hey, Lydia," he calls out to the empty room. He opens his phone to see dozens of messages from Liam, telling him about Hayden's worsening condition and that Hana is back in town. He then opens Lydia's contact and calls her.
