When you're stuck, ask a demon.

It's been six days and everything was going well.

"How's it hangin', Haru!?" a student slapped his back.

"I'm... fine", Shinzou-kun replied.

"Is that Haru-kun?" a girl asked.

"Our hero has arrived!"

Shinzou-kun pushed the people away and headed to the school building.

"Hey, wait, Haru! We gotta ask you some stuff!"

But instead of waiting, he ran away.

He sure was a shy guy. It couldn't be helped that he was considered a hero. He risked his life and made the criminals run away when they found out they couldn't possibly take out the feather from his body.

I was actually relieved. It took around five minutes before the Phoenix's Feather revived him. For five whole minutes, I was afraid that I caused my classmate's death.

But still, it was a weird event. Those criminals knew that the Phoenix's Feather was real. They must have been involved with the supernatural side of this world. But why would they want the Phoenix's Feather? Not to mention, there was that strange magic on Shinzo-senpai.

I was deep in thought until I heard an argument.

"You think it's all cool to joke and be giddy after risking your life for someone pathetic!? You think it's cool to do something like that without thinking!? You almost died, so show some damn worry for once!" Shinzou-kun shouted.

I looked at the scene and he was arguing with a blond man. Shinzo-senpai looked confused as hell.

"H-Haru-kun, I..." Shinzo-senpai was trying to explain his side.

"Just... leave me alone", Shinzou-kun walked towards the building.

Shinzo-senpai probably wanted to chase after him but it would probably lead to another argument.

"He's a tough nut to crack", I said.

"Oh. Felix-kun. Yeah, even if Aiko-sensei told me to watch over him, it's hard if he himself wouldn't want to cooperate", he replied.

"What did you two fight about?"

"He said that I shouldn't risk my life for him. Although I don't really remember anything about the field trip."

"What is the last thing you remember?"

"I was in the art room with Haru-kun. After that, I found myself in a hospital."

The art room?? There were rumors that the art room was haunted. I initially thought of it to be one of the baseless rumors that the students made. After all, everyone wanted to experience the thrill of the supernatural.

However, Shinzo-senpai's situation proved otherwise. I have to investigate it.

I arrived at the art room. There was still some time before class started so I could investigate a bit. When I tried to open the door, it was locked. Well, that was normal. The janitor probably hasn't opened it yet. But that wasn't enough to stop me.

"Mere doors and walls can't stop me", I chanted and a blue bolt of light shot from my finger.

The sound of the door unlocking was heard and I opened it. It was like every other art room. There was nothing odd. Portraits, clay busts, and other pieces of art were there.

No...

"With my eyes, I observe. With my ears, I listen", I chanted and my senses sharpened.

In one of the portraits, I sensed a lingering magic. I approached it and analyzed it. It appeared to be a preset magic. If someone would touch the portrait, the magic inside it would activate.

As for the kind of magic it was... There were only traces of it. I couldn't know how exactly it worked but it appeared to be some sort of possession magic and it was a powerful one too...

That explained Shinzo-senpai's memory loss. When he touched the portrait, someone possessed him... But for what reason? Could it be because they knew that the thieves would attempt to take the Phoenix's Feather? However, the possessed Shinzo-senpai interfered with the criminal's heist and attempted to protect Shinzou-kun.

There were far too many questions and little information. Speculation would do no good until I could find evidence. But I knew one thing. Whoever made the possession magic was a powerful mage. It was from a completely unknown magic system since I couldn't understand its origin. It looked too foreign to be Western Magic and it didn't seem to be Eastern Magic either.

I felt someone watching me. It was definitely not human. What should I do? Should I find out who was watching me? No... If it was that powerful mage, I couldn't afford to fight. They didn't do any harm to anyone yet so I had no reason to pick a fight.

The morning bell sounded and it was time for class... I should just quietly get out of the room. It would be unwise to make enemies.

I was in my room reading grimoires and doing my research. As a magician, it was my calling to unravel the world's mysteries. I was in the process of making another original spell. I was thinking of combining several magic systems into one magic. Kind of mixing Kaballah Numerology and the Abramelin's System together. But if I used Abramelin's System, I needed to borrow powers from spirits.

If I remembered correctly, I had a book on how to summon demons. My father warned me about demons, especially their rules on equivalent exchange. They follow their contract to the letter. That is why you have to read the contract properly. Demons could add more stuff in the contract so that you would pay more thanks to their law on equivalent exchange.

I drew a magic circle on the floor and lit up some candles.

"You are a creature from the depths.

I am a common man seeking mysteries.

My greed is bottomless and my desire is unfulfilled.

If you hear my plea, come forth.

If you see my desire, appear.

Answer my call and fulfill my needs!" I chanted.

The candlelight disappeared and the magic circle glowed... After that, nothing happened. No one appeared...

"Did I do something wrong?" I asked myself and I read the book once more.

The instructions were very clear and I was pretty sure that I followed all of them... Then what could be the matter? Was the mana that I used insufficient? But I wasn't stingy with my mana...

My stomach growled and I remembered it was already 8 in the evening. I still didn't eat dinner since I was so engrossed in my research. Oh well, I guess it was time to cook.

I started cooking a light meal. Since I lived alone, I had to learn how to cook. Besides, cooking was almost the same as magic. You have to follow the procedure and then you can get results.

My meal was done and I poured orange juice on a glass. I sat down and was about to eat when my doorbell rang. Oh come on...

I opened the door and saw a purple-haired girl. She looked familiar.

"Hey there, did you call for a devil?" she grinned as she parked her bike.

For some reason, the demon I summoned rode a bike to meet me.

A/N: It's a relief that Shinzou-kun didn't die for good. Also, we meet our ange-errm demon, Towa! Although her coming by bike was a reference from a cultured series. Anyways, thanks for reading!
