"The Lady of the Crystal Maze..." I muttered.
"That's me", she smiled.
The white-haired woman in front of me was a half-supernatural creature named Mistral Lucinde Celeste. She was said to be a dhampir, the result of a union between a vampire and a human. I heard about her feats and how she protected humanity from the shadows.
"And you must be Felix Takeda, Mary's son, right?" she asked.
"Mother knows a lot of people", I couldn't help but comment.
First was Lady Shion and now Lady Mistral? I knew she was influential since she came from a long line of magicians but I didn't expect her connections to be that wide. I was talking to a legendary person.
"I heard everything from her. You're actually on the Bounty List?" she asked.
"It's not exactly something I would be proud of."
"To make the long story short, you need to be stronger as soon as you can. That's why Mary sent you here."
"Yeah. I'm supposed to work on Storm Processing but at this rate, I would be dead before I can even get a single closer to figuring out how it worked."
"Then let me tell you about a new way to fight."
"A new way? If I start learning a new way to fight, I won't be able to figure out Storm Processing. You can't expect me to learn two fighting styles at the same time."
"Don't worry. You're Mary's child. You will easily get the hang of Lithomancy."
She opened her palm and I could sense mana gathering on it. A ball of light appeared and from the inside, a white crystal started to form. The light disappeared and a small crystal landed on her palm.
"This is Lithomancy", she smiled.
"Is that some sort of conjuration magic? You used a lot of mana just to create a crystal of that size. Although it's a chantless magic, I think I'm better off using Noisy Rest instead of just creating small crystals", I said.
"Oh? You know about conjuration magic? Can you show me?"
"Out of nothing, I create
An object that interferes with the world's laws.
Take shape and obey!" I finished my chant and a sword materialized.
"Not bad. Your mana management is exceptional for a human of that age. But what I showed you is different from that simple magic."
"What do you mean?"
"Place that sword on the ground and stop pouring mana on it. I'll have you know I'm not placing any mana on this crystal", she said as she placed her crystal on the ground.
I did what she told me and I could see what she was trying to say after a few minutes. The sword that I made was deteriorating while the crystal remained unchanged.
"Lithomancy is not just a simple conjuration magic. What I just did was create a crystal that will stand the test of time even if I'm not placing any mana on it."
"I see. This isn't just a regular crystal. This is solidified mana. You created it in a way that would make sure the mana wouldn't leak. That's why it's not deteriorating."
"I'm glad I don't have to explain that part."
"But why would you do such a thing? What's the point of making solidified mana? A temporary weapon is better than a permanent piece of rock, especially if the temporary weapon would use lesser mana."
