There was a huge debate on whether homunculi could be considered as "humans" or not. In the end, most magicians agreed that if a creature could feel pain, it was unethical to intentionally harm them. At least the Millennium Nights Association was like that.
However, some magicians countered that ideology by creating homunculi without a sense of pain. I remembered how sickened I was when I captured an alchemist who made those creatures just for the sake of advancing knowledge.
"Single Bombardment!" I shouted and then a bolt of light shot from a magic circle.
The silver-haired homunculus E-004 moved out of the way. Taking that as my chance, I clapped my hands and smoke came out of my body.
"The shackles of gravity do not bind me.
My mind is as free as a bird", I chanted.
Using the few moments I bought with my smokescreen, I casted magic that would let me fly. Mobility was important in fights and since my opponent was a skilled magician, I needed to be able to move around and avoid his magic.
I soared towards the sky and kept my distance from E-004. If he was here, that meant that the organization that was after me was actually related to the armed men.
"So... Are you guys the ones who put me in the Bounty List?" I asked.
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because you're an enemy who threatens us."
"You do know that by doing something like this, it basically confirms the existence of your organization, right?"
"Yes."
"Are you going to say something like 'Our goals are beyond your understanding'?"
"No."
"Good. That would be so cliche and weird."
"We know that you're capable of understanding our goals."
"But you're trying to kill me."
"Because we know you won't agree."
"Now that's fair."
"So are you ready for our fight?"
"You waited for me to be ready?"
"My creator wanted to make a perfect being and I'm just a prototype. By gathering data and seeing how we can improve after fighting you, he will be one step closer to his goal."
"A perfect being? Why would you want something like that?"
"Because all magicians should strive for perfection."
Ah. I get it now.
"Arcanum Primera", I chanted.
The winds blew as my mana flowed out of my body. This homunculus and his creator... So they were those kinds of people.
"You're correct about one thing", I said.
"And that is?" he asked.
"I will never agree with your goals!"
E-004 moved out of the way after the air beside him exploded. I then continuously snapped my fingers and one by one, Noisy Rests exploded near him and limited his movements.
"Bind!" a rope made from blue light shot out from my palm and headed towards him.
And he fell for my trap when a smaller blue rope shot off from my attack and covered his mouth.
