"Can you verify if there would be an interference with the natural laws if I implement an oscillating mana input to the guardian angel?" I asked.

"Verify again? Which book do you think has that information?" Tokoyami-san asked back.

"I think you can find it in the Book of Abra-Melin and related grimoires. Also, Eastern Spiritology might contain that information as well."

"Wait. Eastern Spiritology?? You have around 7 books with that topic! Not to mention that there are many books which study Abra-Melin's system!"

"Then stop yapping and get to work. Work won't be done if you keep on complaining."

"You're a slave driver."

I continued working on the Magic Calculations for my original magic. Magic can be converted into a series of formulas. Magic Calculation is a technique wherein magicians would input the necessary information about the mana used and then find out what the effects would be. It was way more complicated than math and was a pain to do but it was one of the ways to create an efficient original magic.

Time passed as I calculated while Tokoyami-san would come by and tell me the results of her work. When I was done calculating, I got a rough equation for my original magic. It looks a bit disorganized and I was pretty sure there were many rooms for improvement but at least the first stage was complete. My original magic has a form already.

Creating original magic wasn't a big deal. However, the fact that a magician has to somehow surpass a known magic that has already been minutely perfected was a high hurdle. After all, why would someone use an inefficient magic over something that was already perfected? The first step in creating original magic was making a form. The remaining step was to make sure that the magic was efficient. And that was the longest step.

"What are you doing now?" she asked when I was writing down words.

"I'm trying to come up with a chant for my magic", I answered.

"Why do magicians need chants anyway?"

"Oh... Magic is just an advanced form of autosuggestion."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Unlike supernatural beings who are well-versed in their abilities, magicians need chants to reform their subconscious so they can intervene upon the principles of the natural world."

"That's quite a long explanation."

"Magic has something similar to grammar and syntax which helps it reform your subconscious in the way you want. Once you know that, creating an original magic is easy. A chant is a group of keywords to activate the spell embedded in your subconscious."

"Can mere words really reform our subconscious?"

"Magic is like a really huge association game. You know our classmates very well, right? Who comes to mind when I say "purple-haired loner" to you?"

"You're talking about Shinzou-kun, aren't you?"

"Yep. Chants and spells work the same. By speaking certain words, an image would come to your mind and you can interfere in this world's laws."

"I see... The longer the chant, the stronger the magic is?"

"Actually, that's not really the case. There are some magics which have really powerful effects but have short chants. We're no longer in the age where the longer the chant is, the better. It's an age of efficiency. The goal of a maker of an original magic is to produce an effect with the minimum chants. For example, I could do chantless magic."
