I was reading another grimoire. Today was an eventful day. Too eventful actually. First was Takanashi-san's sudden request and her injury. Somebody was strong enough to injure a phoenix. Not to mention that it involved Shinzou-kun. For some reason, he was facing off against a powerful creature in a cave...
What in the world was that creature anyway? Even if I wasn't nearby, I could sense its powerful mana. The insanity-inducing magic in that cave was probably made by that creature.
Speaking of which, why in the world was that girl there? Was Watson-san involved with Shinzou-kun? Also, why would they go to that cave? There were far too many questions and little information... Should I confront Shinzou-kun about this?
No... Whatever his situation might be, it was his problem. Besides, he was no longer among the innocent populace. His life was entangled with the supernatural. Heck, he was even an immortal himself.
The telephone rang and I walked towards it. Who the hell was calling at 11 PM?
"Guten Tag! Or should it be good evening?" my father's voice greeted me.
"It's already 11 in the evening. What do you need?" I asked.
"I'm just checking up on you. We may be master and pupil but I am also your father.... Actually, your mom is angry and I decided to use you as an excuse."
"I'm doing well actually. My research is doing great and I am in the refining stage."
"I see... By the way, was there anything strange that happened in the city?"
The strange criminals who knew about the true powers of the Phoenix's Feather came to my mind.
"Yeah. Got involved in a case. Actually, what do you know about the Phoenix's Feather?"
"The Phoenix's Feather? It's a feather that would resurrect you from the dead once, right? Why are you asking?"
"Nothing really.. Just checking up on my facts."
I wondered how Shinzou-kun became immortal thanks to the Phoenix's Feather. Most magicians I knew had long lifespans but could be killed. If I was right, Shinzou-kun would revive every time he died. If I could unlock that mystery from analyzing the Phoenix's Feather that Takanashi-san gave me, then true immortality wouldn't just be a dream.
"Anyway, there's another reason why I called you", my father said.
"What is it?"
"Do you know what artifacts are?"
"Yeah... They are special items which grant supernatural abilities to its wielder right? Also, research showed that some artifacts can make supernatural beings."
"I'm warning you right now but there's an organization gathering them. And judging from the Inquisition's reports, they are very active in your city."
One artifact could be potentially dangerous. That organization probably had ulterior motives and were not gathering it for collection purposes.
"I'll be on the lookout", I said.
"That's good. Also, the Grandmaster said he wants to talk to you."
"Me? What for?"
"I don't really know. His mind works beyond our understanding. You'd better find some time in your schedule to head over to our Headquarters."
"Alright. I'll see what day I can go there."
"Good. Gute Nacht! Be sure to not stay up too late researching."
My father hung up and I went back to studying.
