Chapter 6
"Turn right in 20 metres." The woman from the SatNav voiced, cutting Chris off mid sentence.
"I'm going to kill this thing."
"Well it is your fault." I chipped in.
"Well I didn't mean to turn on the voice mode!" He defended, glaring at the SatNav.
"Turn right in 5 metres." The voice said.
"I don't know how you managed to change it to voice mode with your elbow, anyway."
"Accident, Acacia. It was an accident."
"An accident that you can't undo." I teased.
"Turn right, now."
Chris's face reddened, as I burst out laughing.
"Well, no need to worry, because we're here now." I told him, pointing to my home. He cut off the engine and we got out of the car, walking up to the front door. A cool breeze swept through the warm air and ran through my hair.
"Well, here's home." I smiled, bobbing my head towards the door. The breeze tousled his hair slightly, giving it a grand messy look.
"Yeah," he whispered, looking down at my hands. Before I knew it, he took one of my hands and enveloped it in his. "Acacia, look. I had a great day, spending time with you and seeing the sights. I-"
"I honestly had a great time too." I interjected.
"You talk over me a lot." he commented, raising his eyebrow. He still hadn't let go of my hand.
"I guess I do, huh."
Chris sighed, his eyes fluttering closed before he opened them again, staring deep into my eyes. The unreadable expression was back on his face, and I couldn't help but feel curious.
"What are you thinking?" I asked, not looking away from him. Even though it was dark, I could still make out the bright glint in his gorgeous eyes.
"I'm wondering if you'd ever want to go out with me again." he stated simply. I was almost thrown off guard; I didn't expect him to be so frank with me.
If I said I didn't, I'd be lying. But if I said I did, I'd also be lying. I was torn- I really did like Chris. Which was why I shouldn't go out with him again. But if I really wanted to, I should, right?
"Maybe," I replied, seeing his face light up. "Maybe not." I finished.
Chris let out a slow breath. "You're a tough nut to crack."
"I know," I smiled, taking my hand out of Chris's and digging my hand into my purse for the key. Once I found it, I put it in the keyhole and unlocked the door. "Goodnight, Chris. And my real answer is... Probably." And with that, I stepped in the house and closed the door behind me. I looked through the eyepiece to see Chris grinning happily to himself, before strolling off and doing one of those silly jump kicks.
I know I had done the wrong thing, but I couldn't help but smile.
