She showed me to the table and Harry's head turned around as he heard the click of my heels against the floor, his eyes meeting mine immediately as his lips parted slightly. My heart fluttered and I sat down across from him, the hostess handing me a menu and leaving.
I pursed my lips and shuffled a bit as I felt his eyes on me. I didn't have the courage to look him over as my gaze stayed on the menu in front of me, a few strands of my hair falling in my face.
I heard Harry clear his throat awkwardly, his hands on the table. "You look beautiful." He said, his voice I had missed so much pulling me back in. It was filled with love.
I closed my eyes as I took a breath and looked up at him, his expression desperate for any kind of interaction from me. I licked my lips and looked him over, he was wearing a light brown sweater with a white collar under it, light dress pants on as well. Gorgeous pearls hung from his neck as I smiled a bit, feeling the same way I did when we were at home, my chest filling with warmth.
"Thank you, so do you" His eyebrows quirked up and his eyes lit up from my words, "You think I look beautiful?" My smile grew as he scrunched his nose up cutely and I laughed. It always amazed me how unaware he was of how beautiful he was, I don't think he thought of himself that way, which is crazy.
"Of course, always Harry."
His cheeks filled with a bright red color as he rolled his lips.
"Thank you, Ember."
The way he said my name made me miss him, even though he was right in front of me. We ordered drinks, the waitress leaving and the air suddenly feeling thick. The topic I was dying to talk about wasn't being brought up, both of us too scared to break through the fragile glass barrier we had both seemed to put up.
"Harry-"
"Listen about the photos-"
We both cut ourselves off talking at the same time, a small chuckle coming from both of us. He cleared his throat and motioned for me to talk first, which I did.
"Listen Harry, before you say anything, I'm not going to assume anything. I mean yeah, at first I did but I thought about it. I should have never even looked at those stupid photos, it was immature and stupid of me. I shouldn't have listened to Chelsea or let my curiosity get the better of me. I should have talked to you, or waited for you to come home. I'm sorry and that was my fault."
I paused before talking again, avoiding directly meeting his eyes.
"But I deserve in answer, at the very least I deserve an answer. I have never expected much from you Harry, I always have and will understand that with your job comes sacrifices sometimes. Like having to give up your free time, or last minute interviews or trips. I was always okay with that, but all I ever wanted was you. I don't think that's too much."
"Ember.." He said, his voice seeming so tired, making my heart break.
I looked up and kept my focus on his chest as I talked, "Please Harry, just tell me you weren't doing anything. Even if you don't mean it, I just need to hear something good."
I've been in this situation many times, or situations that seemed similar to this. I was with someone for a few months, caught them cheating, and they blamed me for it. I wasn't hot enough, or sexy enough, I didn't give them enough attention, or was most definitely fucking other men. Which was never the case.
I just couldn't afford to hear those words come from Harry, so I don't care if he lies to me at this point. I just want him back, even if it's just a little bit of him.
"Ember, I'm not going to lie to you" He said, his voice shooting arrows through my chest. He leaned over the small table and lifted up my chin, forcing me to look at him. He cupped my cheek and wiped away the one tear that had fallen down.
I was so scared of losing him.
He was the first good thing that had happened to me in so long.
I tilted my head to the side, leaning into his touch, feeling a bit dissatisfied as he pulled back.
"I wasn't-"
He got interrupted by our waiter bringing us our drinks, I felt a small smile erupt as the look on his face was a bit priceless.
"So what can I get you folks to eat?"
