Bucky's pov
It was our last day in Syria. Thank God, I was ready to get back to my own bed. I came back from the kitchen with water for Y/N. She wasn't awake yet, but I laid some Advil on the stand for her for when she did. She had quite the night last night.
I smirked to myself, thinking about her wrapped around me and calling out my name again. I sighed and walked to the hotel door when someone knocked on it. I opened it to see Nat. "Cap's leaving out early." She mumbled, walking past me. "Y/N's not up yet." Nat rolled her eyes. "I know. You fucked her to sleep."
My eyes snapped to hers. I shook my head, "I have no idea what you're talking about." Yet, Nat wasn't impressed. She rolled her eyes and kicked me out of the room. I grabbed my things first and walked to the lobby where Steve and Sam sat talking.
"There's the man of the hour." Sm stood up and walked over to me. He pulled me into a hug and let go. "How was your date last night?" He asked with a knowing grin. I rolled my eyes at him, "Shut up." I walked past him to hug Steve. "No, seriously, you guys have a bunch of noise complaints." Steve joked. I rolled my eyes.
"You guys, get your jokes out now. Just don't bring it up another Y/N. I don't want things to be awkward." They agreed, and we walked to the car. We got inside and Steve drove us to the health center where everyone went to when we found them. "Fury flew Banner in to see if he can help in any way," Steve explained. "Some of the kids in there are barely 10, and they have to live with that serum in them."
I shook my head, "Do we know where the blood sample came from?"
"No," Sam said, "All we know is that it's from the 1940s." I looked at Steve, and he caught on pretty quickly. "Bucky, if that's Y/N's blood sample, it could explain why she's like us. Not aging properly." Steve explained, but I shook my head, "The blood sample dates back before the war. It's no way that's hers."
"Steve's right, Bucky," Sam parked the car, "We can't rule her out. We still don't know how she survived all these years." I sighed and stepped out of the car. In the distance, Banner talked with some kids. Then, he turned his head to us. He walked our way with one of the children. "Dr. Banner," I addressed him, "Sergeant Barnes." We shook hands. It was my first time meeting him formally. He looked just as smart as Steve described him.
"This is Karam," The little boy looked up at me. "We can't find his sister." Karam wrapped his hand around my metal arm, pulling me down to him. I leaned to him. "They were with the purple lady."
I nodded and smiled. I looked over at Sam, "Can you help him find his sister until the purple lady comes." Sam nodded and took Karam's hand, walking him to the other side where people were gathered.
"Banner," Steve walked through the center's door, "How's the situation being handled?"
"Steve, this serum is more complicated than I thought. It's not like you or Bucky." Banner showed us a picture of cells. "The cells are either burning, or they're multiplying too quickly. Cells need to be repaired, and if they are more focused on multiplying, they have no time to repair themselves."
"Which leads to mutations." Steve interrupted. "So, is there anything we can do?" Banner stared at the ground for a second. "We don't have the resources. The most we can do is keep giving them shots that ease the pain." Steve nodded.
"The purple lady's here," Y/N walked through the door with Karam on her side. Nat laughed and took her from his arms. She walked over to us and looked down at the photos. "Are these recent?"
"Older ones," Banner mumbled. "The patient passed away this morning. She was 56."
"Hydra was using the older ones as experiments. If they worked, they would give them to the kids." Nat added. "Still doesn't make sense. Why wait till now to experiment again? Right after being unearthed to the whole world." The room went quiet. Y/N cleared her throat, "They aren't smart. Eventually, they'll slip up."
