Chapter 18

The camera focuses on the top three cars as the drivers park and get out. Lando runs over to the team for a team hug and then the camera shows him running down the pit lane and through the garage. Everyone is screaming for him to come back but he doesn't turn around. Seconds later his room door flys open and he runs and hugs me. He still has his helmet on making me giggle. He takes it off and runs his fingers through his hair quickly.
"You aren't aloud be here" I laugh
"I don't care" he says pulling me in and kissing me
On the tv we here everyone asking where lando has gone.
"You should probably go back out there everyone's looking for you" I say pulling away from the kiss.
"I don't want to leave" he says hugging me again.
"You have to, go celebrate your podium"
"This is better than any celebration" he says kissing my head. We stay holding each other for a moment.
"Ok I'll be back soon I promise" he says pulling away from the hug and leaving for the podium.
Once he leaves you see the cameras focus on him as he runs back down the pit lane with a massive smile on his face.
"Where did you go?" Zak asks as the cameras focus on them.
"Sorry had to pee really quick" he smiles at the camera knowing I'm watching.
In that moment I realize how much I love him. I couldn't imagine my life without him in it. Everything felt too good to be true.
Once he goes on the podium and celebrates he runs straight back to me and we leave for the airport before anyone can realize he's gone.
"Your going to get in so much trouble for this, you realize that right?" I laugh
"Yea, it's worth it who cares"
"Me, as your assistant I'm going to have to give out to you next week"
"That's better again, you don't have to we can just spend an hour in your office and they'll think I got in trouble" he smiles.
We talk some more and then silence fills the car.
Once I go to get out at the airport i stop for a second.
"What are we?" I ask
"Humans?" He says confused.
"Nooo, what are WE" I say raising my eyebrows.
"Ammm, stupid humans?" He says still confused.
"Lando are we together or are we just friends?"
"Ohhh, we are..., more than friends but not in a relationship I guess"
"Ya ok" I say getting out of the car with a sad expression on my face.
"Wait y/n, that doesn't mean I don't want a relationship it just means I haven't found the time to ask you properly" lando says when he sees I'm sad.
"Ya I get it, I've a plane to catch, so I'll see you back in England" I say closing the door of the car and walking into the airport.

Landos pov:
I needed to get this podium. For her. This one was for her. Driving never felt so good, overtaking was like a drug I was addicted to. P3. This is it, this is for her.
I got out of the car and ran to my team really quick for a team hug. I could feel all eyes on me. All that was going through my head was y/n. I knew I wasn't aloud but it was too late now. I was half way down the pit lane. I didn't care I had to go see her.
I quickly ran into my room to see her sitting infront of the tv with the most magical smile I've ever seen.
I run and hug her. I never wanted to leave. This is where I wanted to spend every second of my life, in her arms. I felt too good to be true.
I didn't want to leave her, but I knew I had to go back to the podium. I rush out and all cameras focus on me.
"Where did you go" zak asks me confused.
"Bathroom" I say smiling at the cameras knowing she was watching. In that moment nothing else mattered to me except y/n. I rush off the podium as soon as I can and take her to the airport.
"What are we" she asks
"Humans" I say confused.
"Noo, what are WE"
"Stupid humans" I say still confused, I didn't understand what she was asking me.
"Are we together or just friends?" She makes it clear.
I wanted to say we where together but I knew we wherent and I wanted to ask her proper, I wanted it to be special and not in the airport car park.
"More than friends, but not a relationship" I say honestly.
I see her face drop in sadness
"That doesn't mean I don't want a relationship I just want to wait for the right time to ask you" I say clearing up any thoughts that may have led her to think differently.
"Ya I get it" she said closing the door with a sad expression.
I waited until she was out of my view and I drove away. In that moment I wanted nothing more than to go back to England with her but I knew I couldn't. I drove back to the hotel alone, music up full with the memories of y/n flooding my brain. Once I get back to the hotel I can't help but text her straight away.

*Have a safe flight :) you won't see this till you land but I just wanted to text you and wish you a safe journey home xx -Lando 4:56pm

*My flight is delayed 3 hours :( but thank you xx -y/n - 4:57pm

*So you have to spend 3 hours alone in the airport ?? -Lando 4:58pm

*well 3 and a half, the flights changed to 8:45pm x -y/n 4:58pm

*Thats shitty :(, I wanted to say if you want, you don't have to but if you want when you get home maybe tomorrow you can go to mine, there's a key underneath the flowers by the door. Maybe bring over a tooth brush and some cloths? Just to have for when you stay over!? Of course you don't have to but if you want to, make it feel more like home for you when you stay over x -Lando 5:03pm.

After sending the text I put my phone down and go for a shower. I try not to panic but I can't help but overthink it. What if she doesn't want to? What if I'm putting too much pressure on her? What if she thinks we are moving too fast?
I hear my phone beep while I'm in the shower but I can't bring myself to look at it, I put my phone in my pocket and go to dinner with the other drivers.
