Virgil sat at the desk in the room he was in, trying to draw something. Anything so he could calm down. But it's been two days, he still had that stupid collar around his neck, and he had no answers. He wasn't even allowed outside this room!

His mother was allowed to walk freely, she had told him that she wasn't a prisoner. She's argued with his father to let him do the same, Virgil heard whenever they walked near his room, but not much has changed.

He was given books, clothing, paper and pencils. During his meals, he was escorted to the dining room or gazebo, though there were giant hedges surrounding the mansion so he couldn't see far outside. He just wanted to get out, do something or at the very least get some answers!

Why wasn't his mother fighting to get out? Where were they? What was going on?!

He really hoped Thomas was okay, and so was Roman. He hoped everyone was safe back at the academy. The whole situation was new and stressful, and it was taking a serious toll on him. He didn't sleep well thanks to the nightmares, and that was when he could fall asleep at all!

Worse yet the four that kidnapped him were living under the same roof. He remembered that Shadow had a team of five, minusing Shadow himself, but he was also a kingpin to the supervillains. He had contacts with other supervillains and their teams, he had allies everywhere!

Virgil couldn't quite remember all of his old team members, but it seemed like one was missing. He remembered there was Elastic, she could stretch and contort her body to impossible lengths. CopyCat, he can create clones of himself and come back into one person. Technopath, his name is self explanatory, and Metal Dragon, she's already shown what she can do. He couldn't remember the last one, though.

He's done his best to keep his distance from, well, everyone but his mom. He only talked to her, always looked away from everyone else, and made sure there was a safe distance between himself and the others.

So far, that's worked. Except with Shadow, who tried to start conversations with him. Virgil's always ignored him ever since he first woke up, father or not, Virgil refused to speak with him.

There was a knock at Virgil's door and he checked the clock, there was no way they were having a meal now. He turned to face the door and saw Shadow open it.

"Hello, Virgil," he greeted. "I was just hoping to have a talk with you."

Virgil sent him a glare and turned back around, staring at the paper in front of him but not moving to draw anymore.

"You're angry at me, and I understand why. I wasn't ever a father to you, I had you and your mother kidnapped and my team wasn't the most gentle, and well we can't ignore the fact that I'm still a wanted criminal." Shadow walked in and closed the door. "I've... I've hurt you and your mother."

Virgil scoffed, but he still didn't turn around or say anything. 'Hurt' was a very light way of putting it.

"I know about your legs, and so does your mother. I am truly sorry for what had happened that night, I never intended it to go that way."

The teen set his pencil down, shutting his eyes tight against the tears. He wasn't going to cry over this, but he was just so angry! None of what had happened will go away with a talk!

"I understand that you may have several questions, and I will answer them honestly. I promise. But first, I just want to say that the man I had sent to get you and your mother that night is no longer here. I doubt he'll ever show up again. After I heard about what he had done, I went to kill him. He escaped, but if I ever find him again he will die, I swear to it."

"I don't care," Virgil finally spoke, straining his voice to keep it stable. "Okay, maybe I do, but that is very low on my list of... concerns right now."

Shadow nodded, and waited for Virgil to start asking questions.

"Why did you send him in the first place? My mother said you two had split up for a reason!"

"We did, your mother Sophia was afraid my line of work would put you in danger. I had promised her nothing but the best safety, and even retired, but she still insisted on moving away. The pain was too much for me to bear, I love her so very much and you are my child! I wanted to see you grow, I wanted to see you be happy!"

"So you took that away from my mother?"

"You were supposed to come with her, and it was never supposed to get violent! I told him that if he got violent that he would be killed, apparently he didn't take that seriously. He was supposed to go there, try and convince your mother to come back, and escort her and you. However, I told him that if you two don't come willingly, then he should not force you two."

"I lost my legs! I lost my mother! My home, every sense of safety! I was in a coma for a week, and the only reason the hero committee found me was because my powers were going crazy while I was in that coma! I could have died!"

"I know, and trust me I wish I could turn back time and never send him there. But Spark will never hurt you or your mother again."

"So your solution to the problem you made was to kidnap me from my school?! Not even during the summer when I wasn't trying to keep up with classes or spending time with my friends! I was- I was so happy there! It was going to be the best year of my life because- because I fell in love! And you took that from me!" Virgil wiped away a stray tear. "So excuse me if I hate you! You ruined everything!"

"Virgil-"

"No, just go. I don't want to see you."

Shadow sighed, but he got up and left. Virgil heard the door close and laid down on the table, wrapping his head as he cried harder.

Sophia was waiting outside the room and raised an eyebrow at Shadow.

"Okay, you were right, I should have given him more time," Shadow said.

"Noah, I know you want to be a father, I know you want to be there for him, but you just ripped him away from his home and life! And you did that after you sent that man to our house. Seriously, Spark? Worst choice ever!"

"He used to be very loyal-"

"He was too loyal, but he was also impulsive and violent. A horrible combination, you should have realized he would have done anything to get us to come with him. Now, you tried to kill him so I imagine he's not going to be so loyal."

"I doubt he's going to try to do anything. Right now, I'm more worried about Virgil."

"Give him some time and space, I haven't seen him in seven years but I'm sure he'll open up. He always wanted a father when we were living together. It might take days, it could take months or even years! Just don't force yourself upon him, show him you can be a good guy."

Noah nodded. "Okay, you're right. You're always right."

"I know I am." Sophia gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Now, I need to go comfort our son. This is what happens when you push too hard."

"I'm sorry."

"I know." Sophia walked to the door. "I also know you can learn how to be a good father, if you give him time. Time is all it takes." She opened the door and disappeared into the room.

"Well, I think I ran out of time long ago," Noah mumbled to himself, staring at the door to his son's room. "There's not enough time in the world to fix what I have done."
