"This is as far as I dare to get," Logan said, landing the helicopter a mile away from the abandoned mineshaft. "I wouldn't be surprised if they spotted us already."

"If they have security out here," Janus added. "Maybe we'll be okay?"

"Don't say that, saying that always jinxes it," Virgil warned.

"Let's just head in," Logan advised. "When we get there, be quiet and careful. I don't know how unsteady the mineshaft is, but I don't want to take any chances."

"Also if anything happens, we have the mic's to help us," Patton reminded them. "If we get split up, call if you need to."

"Okay, are we all ready?" Virgil asked.

"More than ready!" Remus shouted. "I'm excited!"

"Alright then, don't die please. Let's go."

Virgil found himself being the one to lead them towards the mineshaft. When they became more visible, Janus put an illusion around them to hide them.

It took awhile to find the drop his father told them about, and after a while Virgil felt like they missed it, but eventually they came across a large gap in the floor with a metal gate around it and police tape surrounding it.

"That definitely looks stable," Janus sighed sarcastically.

"Roman, do you think you can make a light?" Virgil asked, leaning down to see how deep it was.

"Sure," Roman said, holding his hand out. There was a spark, and a little flame appeared in his hand. He held it out to the chasm and they could just barely make out the bottom.

"Who wants to go first?" Logan asked.

Virgil swung himself over the edge, giving everyone mini heart attacks. He used the shadows to hold him to the wall and quickly made his way down.

"Someone's eager," Remus commented.

"Makes sense, his mother could be in danger," Janus reminded him.

Patton went next, making claws to get a better grip on the rocks. Logan soon started lowering everyone else down with his telekinesis, and with Roman's flame the rest of the chasm filled with light to make it easier.

Logan was the last to come down, with help from Virgil's shadows. They turned around to get a better look of the place.

"Look for fake rock, or something shiny," Virgil said. "Dad said there's a door around here."

They all felt around the walls, making dirt crumble away in several places.

"Okay, this is taking forever," Roman decided after a moment too long for him. He raised his hand and made the fire burn brighter.

"There!" Remus pointed out a small panel shining against the wall. Sure enough, when the others ran to it, they felt the plastic rock.

Logan pulled the panel up, revealing a keypad.

"19-89," Virgil mumbled as he pressed in the code. He hit enter and the wall shook for a moment before opening up. His heart was pounding so hard against his chest he was sure the others would hear, but there was no backing out now.

"Let's go," Logan said, and the six of them walked into the dark hallway. They heard the door close behind them, it must have been timed.

"Hopefully we can figure out how to open that again," Janus mumbled loud enough for the others to hear.
