"Virgil, hey!" Remus called, catching up to him in the hallway.

"Remus, where's Janus? This better not be a prank, or you'll regret it," Virgil warned.

"He had to talk to a teacher so he told me to head to the library, which is great cause I need to talk to you."

"Alright... what's up?"

"I need some advice. I heard you helped Patton, and you know Janus really well. Do you think... Do you think Janus would come to homecoming with me?"

Virgil's eyes widened. "You're going to ask him out?"

"Maybe? Look, I'm going to be vulnerable for a moment so don't you dare mess with me right now, and don't tell anyone about this."

"I promise I won't."

"Good. I'm sure you've noticed Janus and I are close, and I don't want to ruin that. I just need to know if you think he would be okay with me asking, and if so how I would ask him."

"Well, you've gotten closer to Janus than anyone has, except for maybe Patton but they don't have that kind of relationship. I've never seen Janus hang out with anyone as much as he has with you. And letting you in on his pranks? That's special, and you've been doing that since day one. I say go for it." Virgil gave him a reassuring smile.

"You think so?"

"Yeah! Oh, and as for asking him out? Don't do anything public, do something sweet and special or just blurt out the question. Janus is really chill, he doesn't like big things unless they're special. Also he's fancier than he looks, I think if he had the money he'd wear a whole lot of vintage fancy clothing. Maybe give him a rose when you ask him, but take him somewhere other people won't be. I'm sure he'd love to go to the dance with you."

"Yeah?"

"Definitely."

"Thanks emo, no wonder Roman likes you so much. You're a pretty good friend."

"Roman likes me?"

"Well duh, did you think he didn't? You're like his best friend! He hangs out with you all the time!"

"Oh, well yeah I guess. That makes sense."

"Seriously, he never shuts up about you sometimes. It's so annoying! But, you make him happy, so good for you. Anyway, how do you have such great romantic advice? Are you secretly a huge flirt?"

"No, I've never had a boyfriend. Honestly, I don't know much about romance, I mean I've lived here my whole life with only Patton and Logan, then later Janus and then you two. I guess I just know what people prefer? At least, I know what I prefer when it comes to being asked out. Something small and simple, and the best relationships come by slowly, little by little."

"Huh, I guess that makes sense. You said you've been here since you were nine?"

"Yup, and I spent my first two years recovering. Seriously, it took forever to learn how to walk on prosthetics."

"Do you know much about the outside world?"

"Yeah, when Thomas took me anywhere he would tell me the culture of whatever country we went to. Now, social media is a different story, I don't know much about any of that."

"What about popular slang?"

"N-no, I don't know much about that. Oh, except for what a Karen is, and some other internet slang. Kids use it sometimes, especially Janus. Whatever I know about the internet, it's from Janus. He's shown me a lot of vines."

"That's good, no one should be derived of vines. The best thing that has ever come from the internet."

Virgil rolled his eyes with an amused smile. "Well, I need to get going. I'm meeting your brother in the library."
