The Scott family were like many well off families in Hartford, Connecticut. A husband who not only came from money, but also had a successful career in law that led to a political rise to senator. A wife who busied herself with various charity projects to leave what she believed was a lasting imprint on society and the world. Then there were their children. All boys. Wildly different. Totally unpredictable.
Celeste Scott looked across the dining table at her husband Jansen and gave a small smile. They had received a phone call they had been waiting on for the past couple of weeks and were finally ready to fill their three sons in on the news. She looked at her triplet sons and smiled widely. They weren't identical at all, but shared similarities that let others know they were definitely siblings. They each had blond hair and plump lips thanks to her and ocean blue eyes thanks to their father. Their facial features all differed, but it couldn't be denied that they were all handsome in their own way. They could thank both of their parents for that.
Celeste was a classic beauty with her blond hair that cascaded past her shoulders in somewhat lose curls and big hazel eyes that seemed to draw people in. She was curvy and petite in stature especially when standing next to her sons and husband who all ranged in height between 6'1" and 6'4". Jansen Scott was a big man who exuded power and prestige. He stood at 6'3" and was made of pure muscle thanks to the rigorous workouts he ensured he and his three sons endured. His jet-black hair accentuated his vibrant blue eyes, while his lowcut beard highlighted his lips.
In many ways, Celeste could see her husband in all of her sons. More in some than others, but she was thankful for the parts of her personality and behaviors that made their appearance in them. Celeste always worried about her sons' upbringing. Jansen was used to the finer things in life, but Celeste didn't grow up that way and never thought her children would either. As she looked at them staring at their phones as they ate, she couldn't help but frown at the fact that she had failed at having the type of family she always wanted deep down. One that talked to one another at mealtime. One that checked in with each other. One that genuinely inquired about one another and not as a means to get something.
"Why are you two looking at each other and us like that?" Their oldest son, Jace, asked. Jansen smirked at his perceptive son. "Your mother and I have something to share with you." They all stopped what they were doing and looked at their parents. Their middle son, Jackson, looked between their smiling faces and sighed. "You're pregnant." He offered shaking his head. "Gross. Mom's too old for that." Their youngest son, Jacob, stated with a frown. "No, not gross," Celeste scolded. "Also, how old do you think I am?" She shook her head. "Never mind, don't answer that." Jansen chuckled lightly. "We're not pregnant." Jansen offered looking at his wife with a smile. "No, we're not. But our family will be growing by one."
The boys looked at one another and then back at their parents and frowned. "We're fostering a girl from Rhode Island and she'll be here in a few hours." The look on the boys faces ranged from indifference to rage. "Are you kidding me? Why didn't you ask us if this was something we wanted?" Jace barked at them. "Jace, tone." Jansen snapped back. "This is something your father and I have always wanted to do, but life got away from us." Celeste informed. "Now that we're no longer in a reelection year, we can do what we want and this is what we want." Jansen looked on at his family and sighed. This wasn't going how he knew his wife wanted it to.
"You may not like the idea of someone new moving in right now, but you will learn to like it. She will be a part of this family and should be treated as such. Okay?" Jansen leveled them all with a look that they knew he was done talking about it. Jacob noticed his mother's expression and felt bad. "It'll be cool, Mom. If I'm being honest, I've always wanted a baby sister." Jacob smiled causing her to smile. "You all will love her," she told them happily. "You three go make sure your rooms are presentable for when she arrives." Just then the staff came in to clear their plates. "I'm off to do some work, but I'll be back before she gets here." Jansen said getting up and giving his wife a kiss on the head before leaving. The boys made their way up the grand staircase and towards their rooms, while Celeste sat at the table thinking about what the next few hours would hold.
"A little sister," Jacob sighed as he threw the football up in the air. They all sat in Jace's room. Jackson lay across the couch twirling his drum sticks, while Jacob sat on the floor with his back against the bed. Jace lay on the bed looking up at the ceiling still trying to figure out what his father's game was. "You know he put her up to this. It's yet another ploy to appeal to his constituents." Jace almost snarled as he thought of their father. Jackson and Jacob shared a look before going back to what they were doing. "I don't know, Mom seems really excited about it. A little girl might be just what they need. What she needs." Jacob offered sitting forward to look at his oldest brother. "Maybe."
"Well, I don't know about you two assholes but I have a shit ton of alcohol and drugs that I now need to hide in preparation of a toddler who will be living on this floor with us." Jackson scoffed getting up. "I can't believe they want to start all over again. I mean we're going to be eighteen next summer. You'd think they'd be happy to have the house to themselves once we're out." Jacob shrugged getting up. "I highly doubt Mom wants to be left alone with that man." Jace mumbled causing his brothers to roll their eyes. "Be on your best behavior, Jace, if not for Mom then for an innocent baby who is probably coming from a shit situation." Jace nodded before kicking them out of his room. He picked up the football and began throwing it around as they all did what they needed to do in preparation for their new houseguest.
