Song: Listen To Your Heart by Roxette
---------------------
'I've invited Josie round, she should be here any minute now. She wants us to meet her new man Steve. Is that alright with you?'
'Sure thing Jessie.'
Ding Dong.
'I'll go get the door.' Jessie disappears and comes back with two people in tow.
Steve's ok. He's no Jimmy but he suits Josie and I think they make a great couple. Before I know it, the beers have all run out and Jessie suggests she makes a beer run.
'Take Steve, it's not safe on your own Jess.' There was never any arguing with Josie.
No sooner than the door had closed, Josie was on me like nobodies business.
I know there's something in the wake of your smile.
I get a notion from the look in your eyes, yea.
'Cut the crap Jimmy. You're in love with Ethan and you're too stubborn and too much of a jerk to admit it. He is heartbroken. Now what are you going to do about it?'
'Way to ease me in Jose... Jeez. And I have no idea what you are going on about.'
You've built a love but that love falls apart.
Your little piece of heaven turns too dark.
'Rubbish. I knew before he told me, it's as plain as day and I wouldn't be surprised is Jessie knows more than she would like to admit. So again, what are you going to do about it?'
'I... I don't know. He hurt me, bad. And I just don't know whether I could go back to him again if he could just run and hurt me all over again. I was going to leave Jessie for him and he wasn't having any of it. Now he is acting like it's all my fault.'
Listen to your heart
when he's calling for you.
Listen to your heart
there's nothing else you can do.
'He's leaving. And you need to go find him and tell him how you really feel. Listen to your heart and you will find the answer. But I'm guessing you already know it and you're too chicken-shit to put yourself out there and see where it takes you.'
I don't know where you're going
and I don't know why,
but listen to your heart
before you tell him goodbye.
'He's leaving?' My heart does a leap inside my chest.
'Well, not far, but yes he is moving in with his aunt for a while a few towns away. He can't cope being so close to you without being in your life - it is too painful for him.'
'But what about Jess. I can't hurt her.'
'Too late for that now, isn't it? Even if you try and keep up with this charade, it'll all mess up in the end and she will be hurt anyway. The best you can do is fix it now before it is too late and you do even more damage.'
Sometimes you wonder if this fight is worthwhile.
The precious moments are all lost in the tide, yea.
'But what if he doesn't want me anymore? I was pretty harsh to him.'
They're swept away and nothing is what it seems,
the feeling of belonging to your dreams.
'Of course he wants you. If I could, I would get you in a room together and not let you out until you kiss and make up. The guy is crazy about you and I believe he is changed - I know he won't ever hurt you again. And this is coming from his ex-girlfriend so you know I mean business.'
Listen to your heart
when he's calling for you.
How do I feel about this new development?
Listen to your heart
there's nothing else you can do.
What do I do?
I don't know where you're going
and I don't know why,
I spend the rest of the evening with everyone in silence and I can't even hide the fact that I am upset about something. Everyone can probably tell but they are being polite and not mentioning it. Jessie is being a saint.
I know what I need to do but I don't know where to start or how to go about it. Step one: break someones heart. Step two: fix another. But how?
but listen to your heart
before you tell him goodbye.
