(Another short one. Nothing too exciting. More like a filler one until I get a better fanfic idea.)
"I'm going to get coffee. You wanna join me, Sam?"
"No."
"Cool. I'll go ask Sarah if she wants one. I don't wanna get one just for myself."
"Why? Just go have your coffee."
"The barista looks at me weirdly. And she's a kid. Makes me super uncomfortable."
"And two coffees will solve that?"
"I don't know, maybe she'll think I'm with someone or something. I can't really tell her off until she actually does something. But it's still weird for me."
"Fine, I'll come with you."
They decided to walk to the cafe. Sam tried to read Bucky's body language, but of course he was unreadable as usual.
"One large pumpkin spice latte and a chicken sandwich." Bucky ordered.
"One grilled cheese sandwich and one large black coffee." Sam placed his order.
They walked to the cashier to pay for the order.
"So are you two together?" The cashier inquired.
Sam and Bucky cringed.
"Uh no, no we're not." Bucky stammered.
"Yeah." Sam affirmed quickly.
The cashier deadpanned at the pair, "I meant your order."
"Oh...... Yeah we're together." Bucky confirmed then paid for both their orders and have his name for the reciept.
As they waited for their food in the only available seat, Sam asked annoyed, "You literally said you wanted some kid to think you were dating someone. Why would you say no when asked?"
"First of all, for some reason she isn't here right now. And I only wanted her to think that, I didn't expect to have to verbally affirm that!"
"So why wouldn't you just tell me that she isn't working today. Now the cashier thinks I'm some lovesick idiot."
"Like I said, I didn't expect to verbally affirm anything. And who cares about what the cashier thinks, didn't you say that it shouldn't matter what people think."
"I'm not paying you back for the order. It's a payback for the humiliation."
Bucky rolled his eyes and then went to grab the order as he heard someone call his name out. When he finally looked at the direction he was headed to, the girl was there. Great. She told something to the bored cashier who shrugged and stepped away.
Aa he approached the desk. The girl smiled at Bucky and handed him his food. She also slipped a paper onto the tray. Bucky awkwardly smiled at her and went back to their seat. Sam opened the box containing his sandwich and began eating. Bucky took the paper from the tray and opened it. He facepalmed.
"What?" Sam asked.
"She gave me her number. Now I have to find a different cafe. I liked this one so much." Bucky groaned.
"I thought she isn't working?"
"I thought so too. Guess she went for a break or something."
"Which one?"
"The current cashier. The blonde one with green eyes. Why?"
Sam put his food down and grabbed the paper. He got up from his chair.
"Where you going?"
Ignoring Bucky, Sam walked straight up to the girl. He smiled politely and handed the note back to her.
"My boyfriend might be a little older for you, mam. He appreciates the interest."
He then turned around and walked back. Bucky could hear it. Sam wasn't loud, Bucky just focused so his enhanced hearing picked it up.
"That was unnecessary."
"Was is though?"
"Well, I guess she'd stay away."
They ate their food and left the cafe.
"So, I'm your boyfriend, huh?"
"I was trying to help you know?"
"Hey, I'm not saying no."
"What?"
Bucky shrugged an began to walk faster.
Sam tried to catch up with the supersoldier but failed.
"HEY WHAT DO YOU MEAN?"
Bucky turned his head back and grinned. Then walked away without answering. Sam stopped trying to catch up as he stood there flustered.
"I guess we're dating now." He mumbled to himself. Sam wasn't entirely mad at the outcome of getting a coffee with Bucky.
