(I usually like to allude to Nat and Bucky dated in the past, but not for this chapter. In this chapter they're just good friends, okay? Enjoy.)
"No."
"What do you mean 'no'?!"
"I mean, no, you're not meeting him."
"Why not?!"
"Because he's my best friend and I don't need you corrupting him!"
"Excuse me? I feel like I'm literally your twin, but male."
"Exactly! You're me but worse!"
"That literally makes no sense, Nat!"
Natasha ignored Bucky as she cracked the egg into the pan.
"Nat! Nat! Natttttttt!"
"Fuck off, Barnes. I told you, you're not meeting Sam!"
"Fine, I'll ask Steve."
"You think he'll cross me?"
Nat turned to look at Bucky. They glared at each other. All Bucky wanted was to meet the guy that was helped Nat and Steve fight him almost a decade ago. The guy who helped Steve help Bucky evade the US government. But that was the last time Bucky had seen the man. Bucky was sure Sam hated him. He just wanted to apologise.
Bucky sighed, "Look, I just want to apologise. How am I gonna corrupt him?"
"Oh give that bullshit to someone else, Barnes. I know exactly what you want. I saw the way your eyes lit up when Steve said that he wanted invite Sam over? You think I don't know that look?"
"What look?"
"Like you found your prey.I know what you're up to. And I'll kill you before you break Sam's heart."
Bucky walked up and chucked a knife that narrowly missed Nat. She didn't even flinch as she held his gaze, she knew he was just throwing a tantrum and wouldn't actually hurt her.
"I'm not same person anymore! And what is he? 5? I don't think a grown ass man needs you to protect him."
"Doesn't mean I won't try."
"I thought Clint was your best friend."
"He is. He's like a brother to me. Doesn't change the fact that I absolutely adore Sam so I really don't know where you're going with this."
"Nowhere. Look, even if I were to try anything, it wouldn't work. He hates me. And I just want to apologise."
"No. You're not meeting him. That's it."
"But it's unfair. I helped with the food too. I shouldn't be kicked out of the house!" Bucky huffed while pulling out the tray from the oven.
Nat ignored Bucky. Bucky knew better than to try and convince Nat. She wasn't entirely wrong, Bucky did find Sam interesting.
After they set the table up, Bucky was getting ready to leave. Just then the door bell rang. Bucky opened the door. Steve and Sam were outside.
"Are you going somewhere, Buck?" Steve asked. He was excited for Sam and Bucky to finally meet.
Bucky shrugged, "Yeah, got some work. I'll be back soon."
Turning to Sam, Bucky smiled. "I'm sorry for your steering wheel and wing. I wasn't in the right headspace."
Sam returned the smile, "It's okay. It's been almost a decade. I still hate you, though."
Bucky chuckled, "Wouldn't have it any other way, Samuel."
Bucky winked at Sam and took off. He was going to find a way to get to know Sam more. He was going to find a way to be with him, with or without Nat's blessings.
