(Maybe a little dark. Violence. SamBucky on a mission. SamBucky angst.)
Something about Sharon didn't sit right with Bucky. He couldn't explain what it was that irked him about her. But seeing her made his stomach drop. So when Sam agreed to join Sharon for a mission, Bucky wanted nothing more than to crush Sharon's windpipe and watch the light go out of her eyes. The thought scared him. That's not him. That's not who he was.
"Hey."
Sam's voice grounded him. Bucky turned to him and raised his eyebrow.
"What?"
"You okay?"
"Yeah."
"Why do you look like you want to murder me?" Sharon asked jokingly.
"He just zones out sometimes." Sam quickly defends his partner. "We'll be there."
"We? He's gonna join us?" Sharon inquires.
"We're kind of a package deal. He's like a nagging wife. Doesn't let me go anywhere without him." Sam chuckled.
"I'm not forcing you to do anything. If you go with her, go. I don't care." Bucky turned around and walked away.
"He's a little stressed. Don't worry, we'll be there. Bye." Sam clarified to Sharon and ran to catch up with Bucky.
But he kept walking fast. Sam didn't understand why Bucky was so mad. He always walked or ran at the same speed as Sam even if their lives were in danger. So Bucky walking this fast concerned Sam.
Sam sighed and flew up. He began flying at the same speed as Bucky walked. "What crawled up your ass and died?"
Bucky ignored him. He kept walking.
"Bucky. Bucky. Buck, talk to me. Are you okay?"
Bucky tried to ignore but the concern in Sam's voice made it impossible for him to ignore his partner. But he knew his voice would break if he spoke. So he shrugged at Sam and stopped walking.
Sam flew down and stood next to him. He placed a hand on Bucky's shoulder.
Bucky wanted to tell Sam how he felt. It didn't make sense to Bucky when he first realised that he was developing a crush on Sam Wilson. He wanted to die. Sam and him had barely started to get along. At first Bucky felt that his body was reacting like that because he was touch starved and because he saw so much of Steve in him. Bucky's heart had shattered after Steve left. And Sam was the therapy to the trauma of Steve leaving him begind. Him and Steve were supposed to be the endgame. He never hated Peggy more in his entire life. And it was happening all over again. Him loosing his person to another Carter.
He swallowed and shrugged. "I'm fine."
"Then what was that? Why were you so angry at Sharon?"
"I just zoned out."
"Don't lie to me. Something is bothering you. Tell me."
"Do I really annoy you that much? Am I burden to you, Sam?"
"What the hell? No. Of course not. I was kidding, man. Sure, I sometimes feel like strangling you, but I feel like that about Sarah too."
"Okay."
Bucky tried to ignore the hurt he felt at being compared to Sarah. Sam thought of him as a brother. Great. He really had no chance with him. Which made sense. Sam probably didn't even like men like that. This was Steve all over again. Bucky began to walk again, but at a much slower pace now. Sam could keep up this time.
"Hey, I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm happy that you decided to join me in my mission all those months ago. You're like the central character of my origin story." Sam added and patted Bucky's back playfully.
