"You what ?!" I asked, standing up suddenly.

"You heard me, if you want to be here you need to know how to take care of yourself" she answered passing her arms behind her head, still reclined in her seat.

"And who told you that I want to stay?" I answered annoyed.

If I remembered correctly, I had woken up tied up in this place, they had never asked me if I wanted to go on an absurd and unreal trip on a ship with pirates that did not even exist in my time.

Then she frowned, straightening a little. She looked at me for a few seconds, analyzing my face. Her eyes then stayed on mine, starting a staring duel. We were both silent with our brows furrowed, not looking away. A short time later she only nodded with a small smile, leaning her back against the back of her chair.

"Very good, pretty eyes. If you want to go you can do it, I will not stop you" she spoke calmly "But if you do it will have to be now. I'm not going to keep anyone, so it's up to you," she finished, shrugging.

I looked at her in disbelief, not quite sure how to react.

Did you really think you could leave me here?

I blinked several times before choosing the correct words to answer her with.

"We're surrounded by water, how the fuck am I going to leave now?" She shrugged again, this time smiling mockingly.

"I already told you, I am not going to support anyone. If you thought that you could only be cleaning the deck, you are very wrong. Several of my men died yesterday and I need someone who can cover my back while we are in battle. And if you can't do that, I don't want you here." Her voice was firm when she finished.

I was silent, trying to process her words. I searched her face for something to indicate that the above was a simple joke in bad taste on her part but I found nothing. She wasn't playing games. The smile I hated for starting to love her was no longer there, her lips were just a straight line. She didn't look upset either, she looked strangely calm. Faced with my silence, she crossed her arms over her chest, raising an eyebrow as she returned my gaze.

I really had no options. My only information was that we were crossing the Pacific Ocean and swimming was out of the question for obvious reasons. So I would not risk it, I would have to accept. When we reached the mainland I would manage to escape.

I let out a sigh, lowering my head.

"Good," I mumbled.

I could see the corner of her lips lift and I was more annoyed by liking her gesture. I looked away, keeping my eyes on the door.

"Good decision, pretty eyes" she slowly approached, stopping right in front of me "You will learn to love it, don't worry" she spoke, running one of her hands through my hair.

I quickly backed away from her, trying to keep some distance. I took a deep breath trying to control my heartbeat. I decided it would be best to get out of the room as soon as possible, so I took the tray with her plate without even asking if she was finished and then picked up mine. I walked towards the door with slow steps, turning only a moment to look at her.

"And my name is Lauren."

Camila giggled still with her arms crossed. She caught her tongue between her teeth and kept looking at me in amusement.

I left there, I would have liked to slam the door and thus express my annoyance over what we had discussed. But that would only be childish ... plus I couldn't do it because of my busy hands.

Again I was surprised to see the deck so empty. Few men were seen in it, some were sitting on the floor talking to each other and others seemed to be sleeping leaning against some wooden boxes. I hurried to get to the kitchen, once there I left things with Normani. She chatted animatedly with other women.
