I got some information from asking some people around the square, when I got enough I went back to the alley with the others. As I had understood they were about to hang some pirates who had been causing a lot of trouble and who were keeping them locked up in that large stone building. With that we decided to look for an entrance that would allow us to pass without being seen, luckily the place had a back door although it was guarded by two guards. It didn't take long for Dinah and Shawn to take care of them, ending their lives in a few minutes.
Once inside we slipped away trying to be careful at all times so that the people who were there did not discover us.
"Let's find a basement," whispered the green-eyed man. "They may have some kind of cells."
We all agreed with the idea so we divided ourselves to make the search faster. The blonde went with Shawn, I stayed with Gerd while Harry had to go alone. We agreed that we would meet in the same alley as before when Camila was with one of us. Of course, everything would be easier if we had cell phones to communicate with, but of course there aren't any of those here.
This left us with a lot of pressure because if we did not find her we would have to assume that perhaps she would already be safe in the alley with the others, however we could make mistakes, assume badly and return without the brunette.
I pushed those kinds of thoughts out of my head to focus on the road. Gerd trailed behind me like a shadow, covering my back at all times. We walked into a lonely corridor with large wooden doors that led to different rooms and into which we had entered so far none of us had any luck.
"Damn," frustrated I ran my hands through my hair, pulling it back.
We only needed to check the last room in that corridor. I closed the door of the one I had previously checked and started to walk to the other with the big man closely following me. I stopped in front of the room feeling that I would go crazy if I didn't find her there. I let out a sigh before pushing it open.
"Please ... be here, be here," I repeated over and over again without looking inside.
The sound the door made didn't do much to calm my nerves. I opened my eyes as I swallowed with my heart beating rapidly. Gerd grunted.
"W-what?"
I went into the room looking around in surprise.
Nothing! Damn there was nothing!
A couple of old furniture adorned the place, everything was dirty. There was a lot of dust on the floor and cobwebs in the corners of the walls, suggesting that they were not using it.
I crouched down placing my hands on my face, I had hoped to find Camila in this last room. I was mad at myself, I felt it was partly my fault that she was trapped in this place with the Spanish. Maybe I could have done something that night to keep her from being taken away.
My head was spinning trying to think about what I would do now, I hoped that some of the others would have more luck.
A few minutes later I heard footsteps approaching and then someone sat next to me. I raised my head and looked at Gerd with a smile, he didn't look back at me yet he growled at me like he did so many times and that was enough to make me feel a little better. Somehow I knew that was his way of comforting me, plus the great man was also having a hard time, after all he had lost his captain.
"You're not such a ..." I immediately trailed off, thinking I had heard something.
It didn't take long to hear it again.
"Did you hear that?" I asked Gerd, hoping he had done it so he would know I wasn't actually driving myself crazy.
I fixed my attention on him waiting for his answer, the characteristic sound with his throat and when I got it I knew it was an affirmation. Something in his eyes told me that he had heard it too and everything seemed to indicate that it was coming from below us so I quickly moved to press my ear to the cold wooden floor. Little did I care that the floor was dirty, I just waited to hear it again.
