"It's a solo song and it's only for the brave."

•••••••

The sticky liquid stuck to Avni's only set of extra clothes, she closed her eyes in frustration. At least they could have left one clothes for her to change into if they were planning to give her a slimy shower, she scoffed at what the Aman's friends had done she expected something better than them than this child play.

Pouring a bucket of slimy liquid on her in the cafeteria, a ridiculous idea.

Yet it worked and now you have become a bigger joke than you already were for this college, her subconscious taunted her. She groaned and looked at the only set of clothing she had in her locker, they were ruined too.

She leaned against the wall of the shower room of the swimming pool, exhausted. She had stayed awake planning how to get into Mr Mehta and Mrs Mehta's room since it is usually locked when they are not at Mansion, in that rush she had forgotten that the Aman's group was returning to college today since Niel had recovered and now she was facing consequences of it.

She felt tears prickle her eyes first time in the long term feeling homesickness, she remembered Ali's hug after a long day at school, Nano's scolding for not doing schoolwork, the most she missed the security of them being around her, the security nobody gave her here.

Stop being a child Avni, you are doing this for Ali and Nano, without you they would be able to be happy, Ali won't have to sacrifice his dream college and Nano won't need to count money every day. She told herself wiping her tears out.

She slides down the wall of the shower room, wondering how she will get out of here without her clothes. She cursed those brats for doing this. She even needed to reach to Mehta Mansion before Mrs Mehta returned from her friend's house to execute her plan. Her thoughts were interrupted by knocking on the door.

"Avni?!"

"DD?"

"Thank god I found you, I heard what it group did, I have bought clothes for you," DD said, Avni stood up in surprise waited for him to continue, "Um. . .Monica arranged the sweatpants and um. . . other stuff, she didn't have a t-shirt of your size so I'm giving you mine, which I had as extra, use it, there's a towel too."

"Uh. . . um. . .Thanks, DD can you please you know keep it on the door, I will have a shower and use it?"

There was a shuffle then Avni saw the clothes hanging on the door, she leaned on the door the wall putting the shower on, thankful to DD as she stripped out of her dirty uniform and put on the shower and let the cold water wash of the slimy thing of her body.

Soon enough done with cleaning, Avni pulled on the clothes, it was a black t-shirt and black sweat pants which were just right for her, she left her wet hairs open, before opening the door, to find DD nervously twirling his fingers, he got up from the bench he was sitting when he saw her.

"You are okay right?"

Avni nodded, before wiping her hair on towel from above, "I'm, thanks for clothes."

DD waved her off, "It's fine, but today they all crossed the limits how could they do that? You have not even done anything to them!" He said loudly anger coating his voice, Avni shook her head.

"They did what they warned me about, and let them do what they want if removing my mum's anger on me calms them so let it be that way." she calmly stated and then ducked down to tie her shoelace.

"But you being punished for your mother's action is stupid!"

"That gives them satisfaction I guess, let them have their satisfaction." she shrugged before, slinging her bag on her shoulder, and tieing her semi-wet hair in a bun.

"You have your bike?"

"Yes."

Avni grins at him "Give me the keys, I can't take the car, everyone will know I returned from college and if something happens I will get caught." she explains DD nods and gives her the key to the bike.

"You need to cover for me here." she said as she pocketed the key.

"Yes I know and those stupid rich kids have made covering for you easier, I can easily say you were upset even ashamed about everything so we stayed here." DD grins, Avni high fives him, "I knew there was a reason you are my partner."

"Now wear this cap so nobody recognises you when they see you from far away, the fourth class of the day is started so you won't see anyone, make sure to use gate three, the watchman there goes for snacks now." Avni nods and secures the cap on her head.

"I will see you in the evening at Mehta Mansion okay?"

"Mehta Mansion? You won't come back?"

"No, so come to Mehta Mansion okay?" DD nodded uncertainly, Avni gave him a quick smile before exiting the room.

She walked through the modern gothic architecture, making sure nobody noticed her, she ran through gate three, getting on DD's bike as soon as she spotted it, she depresses the clutch and shifts into first gear before raising the shifter gently, starting it.

She removed the cap, putting on the helmet and hanging the cap, she speeded out of the parking, towards Mehta Mansion. After exactly twenty minutes, Avni parked DD's bike at the backside of Mehta Mansion, the part where there were no guards, nobody could know she was in Mehta Mansion when none of them were home, it will raise too much of suspicion and questions regarding her intentions.

Which she didn't want now, she needed all the trust she could get even if she was just going to break them for searching the reason for so much of hate towards her mother, towards her. She looked at the boundary wall which was a foot taller her she arranged few wooden boxes she found near the dustbin before looking around and with slight difficulty she pulled herself on the wall.

She looked around for the presense of anyone when not finding anyone, she jumped on the ground, after stabling herself, she hurried towards the back door which servants used she was sure since Mrs Mehta was not there all of the workers would have gone to take some rest, she carefully unlocked the door, hurrying in, she closed the door behind herself.

She sneaked up to the first floor where everyone's room was, she ran towards the room, she last had entered when her mom was with her, she closes her eyes before removing the set of keys she had sneaked from downstairs, she instantly pushed the key she remembered as the door's key in the keyhole unlocking the key.

Avni closed the door behind herself, she blinks twice looking at the room, nothing in the room had changed everything was the same, she looked at the walls where photos were there, there were many photos she recognised photos of her and her mother, even her and Mr Mehta's, there was the photo of her individually too and Aman's photo with Mrs Mehta and Mr Mehta were decorated on wall.

She closed her eyes to calm herself, before walking towards the walk-in closet, she immediately opened Mr Mehta's side of the cupboard and opened the drawers, she was really taken aback by the fact that everything was unlocked, when did Mr Mehta become so careless? She opened read through the first file she found, it was about company shares, she picked up a green one hurriedly, reading it, she sighed in disappointment after finding that it was property papers.

She quickly read through the files sighing in disappointment when she didn't find anything, she closed her eyes muttering a quick prayer before picking up the last file, the purple file, Avni clasped her hand on her mouth when she finally finds the death certificate, her mother named stared back, like asking you finally found time to remember me?

She hurriedly tried to read the reason for death, Avni gasped when she read it, her eyes tearing.

"Cancer?" She muttered, trying to remember her mother ever visiting the hospital, there was no memory, she was always there beside her, then Cancer? How?

Maybe she never got diagnosed to take care of her? Nothing made sense, Avni considered DD's word maybe her mother and his father death was not connected. Avni wiped her tears immediately before taking a pic of the death certificate, it was again a dead end.

Just like those newspapers, everything here is leading to a dead end.
