"And ash is a thing that someday we all should be."

•••••

There is a pov shift in middle.

The thing about the past is, that it will never happen to you again because you have already experienced it and have grown stronger, harder and smarter but that doesn't mean it won't haunt you because it will. There's no stopping the memory of the past regardless of what it is, it can be one's most embarrassing or traumatic experience it will find a way back to the owner's memory.

Many people say trauma made them stronger, smarter or kinder but Avni believed that was bullshit. The person made themselves stronger, smarter or kinder not something which ruined them.

The waves crashed against the beach, she could feel the sea breeze hit her, the sun's light fell on her, the glow made her feel pretty. The sun was far from setting but its rays were softer because of it being cold and slightly cloudy. Avni rested her head on her knees looking at the horizon, too much was going in her head but there was nothing on her tongue.

She wished she was better with feelings like Neil, who had no problem speaking up when he liked or disliked the person, one could see on his face when he liked someone and appreciated someone.

When Neil arrived he didn't say anything, his face had scowl as he dropped himself beside her on the mat she was sitting, she knew Vidhyut must have done something for him to be so silent and being here.

But the silence felt suffocating now, after almost months of wishing he would shut up now it felt weird when he was quite, could not he accuse her get angry on her? Would not it be better than this silence?

She didn't move, she didn't understand how she should start.

"The horizon looks pretty right?" She awkwardly muttered and then forced a laugh, lump formed in her throat when he didn't even glance at her.

"If I'm gonna talk I need to know if you are listening to me." she told him, she sighed when she didn't get any response.

"You know I never wanted to hurt you, I'm sorry for snooping around your father's library, it was something important I needed to find."

There was no response, yet again.

"If I had a choice I would have never forgotten about you, I read the diary which I wrote when I was a kid, you seemed like very important person to little Avni, if we had choice we would not have forgotten about you."

"My father never sent me abroad, it was all lie to hide from everyone that his only daughter had ran away from the boarding school while he was busy setting a new family for himself." this time she didn't look at him as she spoke, she looked at the horizon, the setting sun looked magical.

She acted like she was speaking to herself, reminiscing her past she never gave herself time to visit.

"I don't think he even searched for me when I ran away from boarding school, I don't remember anything after I ran away from the school, Nano and Ali they were the people who took me in after I stayed on the road I guess, I was diagnosed from Post-traumatic stress disorder."

"I had woken up in hospital with no recollection of anything other than my parents and what had happened, I don't know what had happened to me in a week I was on the road, there are little triggers, like shouting which brought back some memory but I can never connect them. This all were symptoms that took doctor to recognise what I was suffering through." Her voice cracked in the end.
