"And then we got into a bit of an argument." I say.

It's a Tuesday morning and I'm currently filling Jas in on everything that happened after school.

"To be quite honest, I think I agree with her." Jas says.

I sigh.

"You're not the first person to tell me that." I say.

She gives me a quizzical look.

"Jordan, mom and Erick also told me the same thing." I say.

She bumps her shoulder with mine.

"Erick, huh?"

My cheeks grow hot.

"I've learned he gives good advice!" I protest.

"Sure." She says, smirking.

I roll my eyes, knowing that arguing with her would be useless.

Just then, Erick comes over with Jake.

"Ladies." He says smoothly, winking at me.

I shove his arm.

"Why are you always in a good mood?" I ask.

"Because you're around." Jake says, as though teasing his best friend.

He gives Jas a light peck on her lips.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask.

"It means that you being around keeps me in a good mood." Erick says.

"I wonder why." I say sarcastically.

He rolls his eyes.

"Babe, you and I both know you love being around me." He says, cockily.

"Keep telling yourself that. And don't call me that." I say.

"Sure thing, babe." He says, winking.

I flip him off.

"Wow, there's so much tension between you two, get a room for goodness sake!" Jake says.

"Oh please, like you and Jas don't have any sexual tension, if not more." I retort.

Erick and I laugh at their embarrassed faces.

"Class, I have an assignment for all of you." Our English teacher says, making the class groan.

"I want all of you to pair up, and no, you don't get to pick your partners-" The class groans again. "Oh stop being so boring, I haven't even told you what the assignment is!" She says, annoyed.

"Bear in mind that this assignment will be graded and it will play a huge part in your overall grade for this class. Now, you will have to write an essay about your partner on your first impression of them." She continues.

Jake raises his hand.

"Yes, Jacob?" Mrs. Kennedy asks.

"What's the word limit?" He asks.

"400 words. Not too difficult, I hope?"

Jake slumps back into his chair, clearly dissatisfied.

"I'll be announcing your partners, but first, I want to make certain things clear. Number 1: I want you all to take this assignment seriously, your grades count on it. Number 2: I don't want to see words like 'hot', 'sexy', 'dumb' or any use of vulgar slang. Am I clear?" She says.

A few boys groan.

"Now, your partner for this assignment will be the person sitting to your right. If you are sitting at the end of a row, take the person behind you. Start from the left of the row." She instructs.
