Thursday comes faster than a bullet train.
Today, is the day our school, Foxfire High, plays against it's rival school Greenswood High.
To say we are nervous, would be an understatement.
Greenswood has excellent players, almost as good as our team.
"Jess, everything will be fine. You've trained us a lot." Erick says, clearly seeing how nervous I am.
I sigh.
"I know, there's a lot of pressure on me, as captain." I tell him.
"I know a couple of ways to get rid of your stress." He says cockily.
"What?" I ask, already knowing where this is going.
"Perhaps a kiss should do the trick." He says cheekily.
I roll my eyes and laugh.
"I knew you'd say something along those lines." I say.
"Well? Am I going to get rid of your stress or not?" He says, pretending to be impatient.
I pretend to think about it.
"Hmm, I don't know. Maybe." I say flirtatiously.
"How about if we win today's match, I get a kiss and if we don't... we'll see." He says, his eyes glinting at a challenge.
It's not like I have anything to lose...and a kiss with Erick sounds surprisingly appealing.
"Deal." I say, smiling.
"Get ready to give me a kiss when we win." He says cheekily.
I chuckle at his confidence, and just like that, all my stress disappears.
"Alright, Jasmine, Jessica as team captains your team is counting on you. Give it your best." Coach Robyn instructs us, just five minutes before the match starts.
Our team is huddled up talking strategy and when the buzzer signaling the start of the game, we cheer and take our positions.
Our team gets to serve.
Jas serves the ball and it's goes to the far end of the court.
Someone spikes it to our side.
Zeke reaches it in time and pushes it over the net strategically.
The ball flies over to the other side, and in an attempt to hit it, several people bump into each other, collapsing to the floor.
By the time the first match is over, Greenswood wins by 2 points.
"We can do this, guys. Don't lose hope yet." Jas tells our team.
We cheer and move back on court for the second match of the set.
Our opponent strikes the ball and I dive in time to toss it over the net, to watch it hit the ground.
Our team cheers.
Soon, we're in the lead by one point.
During the last rally, Erick spikes the ball over the net and it flies to the back of the court.
A girl tries hits the ball but it hits her teammates head hard and falls to the ground.
We win the second match!
"Great going, team! Thanks to your efforts, we move on to the second round of the qualifiers." Coach says when we win the set against Greenswood.
