"Sorry, who are you?" I frown, staring at the woman holding the puppy.

"My name is Sarah, I work with a lot of horse owners and Adrian said you might be able to help me out. I wouldn't ask if I wasn't desperate." She tells me, glancing down at the puppy wrapped inside a blanket.

"What's wrong with it? Can't you give it to the vets?" I question, not particularly wanting to touch it.

"Wha- oh, god no, sorry! This is Luka, I just rescued him from a lady up south. His mother isn't producing milk and he needs a surrogate." Sarah explains quickly with an apologetic tone.

"Look, I have a dog thats been inside the kennels for over a year, he's almost three and he's as vicious as they come. Thing is, he's very temperamental, I believe he could change with the right owner." She explains to me, placing the puppy in the front of the car on the floor.

"I'm not looking for a dog-"

"He's due to be euthanised in the morning, there's no more chances for this guy. I heard Adrian talking about what you did with that stallion Friesian, and I figured if you could tame a horse like that you'd handle Lucifer." Sarah talks in a somewhat rushed tone, I could hear the worry in her voice, see the shaking of her hands.

I mean, she's not really giving me a choice.

"How many people?" I question, placing my hand against the door so she can't unleash whatever vicious creature she has locked up.

"Eleven, that's just what we know of. He's leash reactive, dog reactive, food reactive, noise reactive. He won't just snap and walk away, he will lunge and when he bites...he doesn't let go. Almost tore a little girls face right off." Sarah exhales.

"Jesus." I breathe, scowling at her. "And if this dog gets hold of my horses, or guests? I can't have a ticking time bomb running around-"

"I know! Please just try, I hate to say it but this is his last chance. He shouldn't have to die just because he had wreck-less owners that found it funny to set him on everything and everyone." Sarah looks at me with as much pleading as a person can muster.

A complete stranger, and i couldn't bring myself to say no. She's right, dog, horse, or human, no one should have to die because of how they were raised. Not when there's hope they can be fixed.

"I don't know the first thing about dogs." I admit.

Sarah's face instantly lights up with relief. "I will write down everything you need to know, you can call me anytime of the day."

"Alright. How do we get him out without being bitten?" I ask cautiously.

"He's tranquillised at the moment, I suggest keeping him chained up outside. You'll have no barn or home left if he's loose and on a rampage." She tells me, flashing me a thick worn leather collar and a huge chain no longer than three metres. The width of it is insane.

Great, just great. How fucking big is this thing?

"Let's get him out." Sarah smiles nervously, unbolting the door and removing the lock.

At first I couldn't see anything because it's so dark, but as more light seeps in, I see the absolutely huge bear looking dog passed out cold.

"You said it was a dog, that's a fucking monster." I hiss at her, glaring slightly.

No joke, the thing is massive. It's legs are chunky and broad, paws are huge and it's head? Absolutely gigantic, bigger than mine. There's no way in hell I can handle that thing without my wolf.

Maybe it won't be as bad as she's making out? I've dealt with actual wolves, this is nothing.

"I want everything there is to know about him on paper, if I'm going to do this I need to know what I'm up against." I tell her firmly.

"Of course, I'll get It done tonight and deliver it first thing tomorrow. Anything else?" She asks me with a raised eyebrow.

"No one comes to find him, no visits, no check ins, not without my say so." I say.

When I was training Apollo it wasn't easy, every time someone walked past him or got too close, it set him back in trusting me.

"Done, I suggest not handling him unless he's sedated. He won't eat anything other than meat, so just throw it, don't get close. When doing his water I would suggest using a hose so that you don't get close enough for him to grab you." She explains the basics.

Basically everything leads to me not being within a metre of him. Even when he acts calm, he's preparing to attack.

How the hell do I help something that I can't even get close to? Like an idiot I agree, feeling guilty for the fluffy face. Sarah and Winter help me carry the dog to the front of my house, where we attach his collar and lead and tie him to the steel post.

Sarah leaves just like that. No dishes, no bedding, nothing to keep him warm.

"You realise what breed that is, right?" Winter asks me a few minutes later as we stare at the sleeping beast.

"I do." I exhale.

Caucasian shepherd are well known amongst our kind. Some wolves fear these dogs, because whilst most dogs will tuck tail and run in the presence of a wolf, this dog will full of attack you and it won't stop. It's to the death.

"You think it's as bad as what she says?" Winter wonders. We stare at the dog, not seeing how something so fluffy and calm can possible be such a vicious thing.

Maybe the humans being dramatic?

"Doubt it." I sigh.

Leaving the beast to sleep off his meds, we head inside after placing a bowl of water near it. Considering I'm not equipped for a dog, one of the feeding buckets for the horses will have to do for now.

"Do you want something to eat?" I offer Winter, already searching through the pantry.

"I won't say no." Winter calls from the living room.

"Anything in particular?" I offer, already tasting the cheeseburgers in my belly.

"No." She calls back. "Do you want a hand?"

"I'm good, feels nice to use my leg again." I muse, slapping the burger patty's on the counter top.

Get in ma' belly.
