...Beep...

...Beep...

...Beep...

The high pitched sound grows closer, the darkness surrounding me seeming to shift. It's a strange sensation, one that lasts only a few seconds as I'm dragged to the surface.

My eyelids feel heavy as I wake up, the kind of feeling when you're sick and your eyes hurt when you open them.

As my vision clears up as I notice bright while walls, and wires. Where am I? I think to myself, glancing around cautiously. I realise quickly that I'm some kind of hospital, hooked up to monitors and needles.

Where am I? This time I feel myself begin to panic, having no clue how I ended up here. Wherever here is.

Think, Katalayha. Where were you last?

The ball.

I was dancing...with Hardin? He said something...what did he say? He said something...he's getting married.

Flashes of us dancing fill my head, my chest aching as I realise that he's moved on. Well and truly moved on, maybe this is a good thing? Despite that, it doesn't explain how I ended up here.

Laying in a goddamn hospital bed.

Glancing down, I realise I'm partially nude, a thin blanket covering me. I lift it up, my eyes widening as I finally notice the square medical gauze on my chest. I've taken enough hits and blows to know that it's not a stab wound.

Some motherfucker shot me? My blood immediately begins to boil.

Carefully pulling all the machinery out of my body, I sit up, ignoring the dizziness that washes over me immediately. Sliding off the bed, I steady myself against the side of the bed, testing my balance. Given that I feel a bit lightheaded and nauseous, I grab the blanket and pull it around my body to hide my nakedness.

Suddenly the door opens, and I spin around in surprise, only for my eyes to wide huge as I realise who he is.

"Kat?" He breathes, his silver eyes growing wide and glossy with emotion.

I didn't get the chance to react before his arms surround me and he's cradling me against his chest like I'm somebody to him.

"Dude, what the fuck are you doing!?" I snap, shoving him away from me. In reality I'm not strong enough to do so, I just don't think he expected me to push him away.

"What's wrong?" Hardin's eyes flash with confusion, pain as he stares down at me. Still looking at me like he might cry any second.

What the fuck is wrong with him?

"What's wrong? Are you stupid? You don't get to fucking touch me." I glare icily, wrapping the sheet tighter around my body.

"Kat, I'm lost...have I done something?" He stares at me like I've just stabbed him in the heart.

Is he serious? What is wrong with this guy?

"You're engaged, Hardin. You and I are done, you know that." I retort coldly, walking around him and exiting the room.

"Engaged? What the fuck are you talking about?" He has the nerve to question, following after me with a look of utter befuddlement on his face.

"Oh don't play dumb, it's not cute. You told me earlier when we were dancing." I state, rolling my eyes.

"Kat, I think you're a little confused. Get back in bed and I'll call Luther, we'll explain everything." Hardin's voice softens, his calloused hand grabbing mine.
