I wake to the sound of Lucifers heavy paws crossing the room, collar jingling loudly right as the bed dips. The moment I move, Lucifer throws himself down next to me, and with my eyes still shut I roll over and snuggle into his fur.
He needs a bath. I realise, wrinkling my nose slightly.
"Good morning." A deeply satisfying murmur sounds, lips pressing against mine for only a few moments before he pulls back.
I couldn't help but frown a little. Opening my eyes, I pull myself up and cross my legs, instantly flinching as I realise how sore I am.
Humans are not meant for wolves, especially Alphas. Goddamn it hurts, despite how fucking great it felt at the time.
"Take these." Hardin sits on the edge of the bed, offering me two small tablets and a glass of water.
I'm familiar with those tablets these days. Pain relief.
"Thank you." I sigh, quickly swallowing the tablets and sipping the water.
"What time is it?" I ask, covering my mouth as I let out a huge yawn. So attractive.
Hardin's eyes shimmer with content. "Around eight."
Eight?
"No, come on." I grumble, pulling back the sheets and patting the spot beside me.
Hardin just looks between me and the empty space, raising his eyebrow like he's against climbing back into bed once he's awake. But if you can't do such a thing when you're on vacation, then when can you?
"You don't want to cuddle me?" I ask like my feelings are hurt, which he of course sees right through but it doesn't make him feel any less guilty.
His t-shirt is off and on the floor in a second flat, joining me in only dark grey joggers that I'm forced to look away from. Because hot damn, why does he look so fucking scrumptious in everything he wears?
"I was planning on ordering breakfast." He whispers in my ear, kissing the spot just below my earlobe.
"Mm, later." I exhale deeply, snuggling up against his warm chest, feeling his arms wrap around me like a secure blanket.
"Later it is." He promises, lips against my forehead.
I soon drift back off to sleep, comfortable and content, more so than I've been in a very long time. Part of me wishes it could be like this for however long I have until this whole human thing kills me off, but deep down I know it's not possible.
Hardin is a Alpha, and as much as I try to escape it, I am still the Elders weapon. I'll always owe them in some way, or need money, and they'll always be there waiting for me to return.
This time I might not, the target isn't a someone, more like a something. No one else will take the job, and the Elders have been antsy about this possible threat for a very long time.
Why haven't they dealt with it themselves, you ask? Well, the Elders are past getting their hands dirty. So they use others, people like me to do it for them.

I wake some time later still half laying on Hardin's chest, my body between his legs and his arms like a blanket.
"How about that breakfast?" His sleepy mumble echoes not a minute later, the loud rumble of his stomach telling me he's starving.
Yes, he's a wolf Kali, of course he's starving.
"Yes please." I smile sleepily, my eyes still half shut and I climb off him and out of bed with Hardin in tow.
He heads out of the bedroom, leaving me to use the toilet and shower in peace. Are we going anywhere today? I hope not, my body is kind of sore. Speaking of, what the hell am I supposed to wear for comfort?
